Auctions: Tweaks to Software, and questions
Here are a few remarks...nothing urgent, nothing earthshaking, but small improvements to the software that I would welcome, and a few questions. (If they are already implemented, would love to know how I can make use of them). Please, add your comments, and your wishes for future guidance.

1. The "Auctions" and "Auctions closing in the next 24 hours" seems to list items in a time related sort...ending soonest first etc. I have often wondered if additional sorts would not be helpful.
Now I have found (quite accidentally) that various sort options are available embedded in the column titles, if you click on the heading you get sort choices... this ought to be spelled out more clearly (if it is, how did I miss it?). It is a powerful feature, and I did not find it until I accidentally was probing and searched through the capability of the software.

But there are some limitations. In particular:
SELECT. An alphabetical Sort, based on Alphabetical list of Countries...right now it seems to be dependent on the format of the post..ie posts that are in a non-standard format like (exemple from today's list: 16 different MNH Finland ) get listed first, so the sort seems to be post dependent.... (and numerical preceding alphabetical).
Not sure how to implement, other than forcing a listing in a standard, ie format... country/cat/catnumber/year/description/etc..
FORMAT. I like imposing a rigid (or more rigid) format for listings. I think assigning sortable fields will help in the long run. My preference: Country (or category item), Cat number, Cat type, Year, Condition ( MNM, M, Used, defective), description...
AUCTION CAT LIST. I understand the thinking on the simple category list we currently have, and the reluctance to complicate things, but I feel we could really benefit by considering a hierarchical system, with a minimum of two levels, and the decoupling of some of these strange bedfellows we have now (Asia inc Middle East) missing levels ( A Europe level, Former East Europe, etc..) an extra level (Topical in particular)
MULTIPLE PICKS. I notice that you can pick several sellers (Ctrl-Enter) in your sorts, but it would be nice to be able to pick several Categories as well (For example UK and British Commonwealth as a natural sort I like...but really any number of choices rather than just one at a time) This may be also useful in a layered system.
BIN, NO BIN. Not sure what this is and how it works for me.

That is all for now, but there may be more, and I may be missing some already existing features..I am just getting more adept at using the system.

These are just a few of my thoughts..none of them critical, but as I get to use the Auctions board more, I sometime feel they would help me and would simplify my life...other times all is well and I can navigate the system within its limitations.
So nothing at this time is urgent and I appreciate all that has gone into the system by our programming wizards. These are some thoughts for the future.
Curious if other buyers (and sellers) have some personal remarks on the topic. These are all as a buyer as I have none as a seller, (I have yet to post items for sale).
Thumbs Up

Ted,
Thanks for teaching an old dog a new sort function. I would also like to see the multiple category sorting function.
