It starts off calmly with some information on SAP186.
And then, the surprise, as Doug discusses a new makeover of the digital CD handbook to bring it up to date.
Quoting from the report, Doug writes;
" ....Many of the Handbook’s 3,250+ pages were written several years ago and the passage of time makes some of them read rather oddly today.
The acid-etched gravure process is not a current method of printing modern definitives and needs to be distinguished from EME more clearly, rather than just relying on readers knowing that photogravure means acid-etched.
For most of the last two months I have been engaged on an extensive makeover to ensure that the text reads well, is relevant and, vitally, is accurate. I am also reducing the number of end-of-line hyphens.
I have been greatly helped in my endeavours by Alex Lindsay of Canada who sent me dozens of pages of helpful comments as well as spotting some typos and inconsistencies. His meticulous work has acted as a spur to my own efforts and I am most grateful for his help.
All the chapters and the catalogue files have now been re-written and much new content has been added. The changeover of the headings to the source column in the catalogue lists has been completed. Several new subjects have been added to the Glossary.
A discussion of the meaning of definitive has been included in chapter 1. Cross-references between official colour names and the Deegam tables have been added to chapter 3. Value settings measurements have been checked and a couple have been corrected.
The captions to self-adhesive products in appendix 3 have been amended to remove mention of bands where only bars were engraved on the phosphor cylinders. The appendixes will be next to receive attention but will have to wait a bit as there is much else to do first. ..."
Doug has also devised a graphic set of tables for stamps containing year codes which will be very helpful and a vital tool in the future as Year and Source Codes become more extensive and perhaps more complex.
A new table to assist in Phosphor Bar identification is included, and of course there is the usual data on new issues included.
It may be time to download a paper copy of DGR 104, or to update your existing disc, especially if you are working from one a year or two old..

A Lovely idea, Lisa, Five years ago I'd drive there with my Deegam's and assorted tools in the trunk, but my traveling days are just about over. I didn't even renew my driver's license on my last birthday in an attempt to protect the general public from unintended mayhem.

Doug and family are back from a well earned vacation and Deegam Report # 106 is now on-line for those who subscribe, and can, of course, be downloaded using the Adobe program.
There are some interesting notes and an explanation of the difference betwixt a "band" and a "bar."
Also, a short discussion about the Faststamps overprints.

The latest Deegam report is now ready for users to access and read.
