I recently acquired a document from Nova Scotia in 1873. It is a 7 page document, sworn before a Notary Public that documents the account of the crew and Captain of a ship sunk in a storm -- probably to document the insurance claim, or for legal proceedings.

I do not have the time right now to transcribe the document, but I'd really like to. If I have to do it, it will sit around for months. The penmanship is very easy to read (see 1st page below).

Would any Stamporama member have the time and the interest to transcribe it from my very large and clear photos? (Much larger than the reduced image below). It's not exactly "philatelic" (although I did get it at a stamp show!), but I'd offer the photos and transcript (with credit) for publication on Stamporama if there is interest.

Here is the first page:

re: Looking for a volunteer with time / interest in Canada East Coast history

Not a lot is known about the foundering of the SV Chester,
a Canadian schooner of about 87 tons burden.
It sank around 23th April 1875, off Scatarie Island.
She was registered at Sidney, Nova Scotia.
Maritime Museum of the Atlantic

Scatarie Island is a small island off the north tip of the
East Coast of Cape Breton Island, the northern part of Nova Scotia.
There are many wrecks in the vicinity as it is near the entrance to
the St Lawrence River. The island sticks out into the North Atlantic
and fog is a frequent companion in the area.
I imagine that she looked quite like the vessel shown on the famous
Canadian "Bluenose" stamp

Thank you for the responses. To all interested, the transcription is currently being worked on and results will be posted on Stamporama at some time in the near future.
