I haven't collected anything of Lindbergh in ages, but I have never heard of him flying C.A.M. 20. His route was C.A.M 2. "Contract Air Mail" route 2. That was in 1926. Then on Feb. 20-21 in 1928, "Lindbergh Again Flies The Air Mail". These covers do have the horseshoe on them, but they would also include in the opening, Chicago St. Louis C.A.M 2
With the Chicago/St. Louis covers of 1928, there was so much mail that Lindbergh could not carry it all on his own. Several planes were needed, but they made frequent stops, and Lindbergh changed planes and did personally fly each and every plane at least a portion of the trip.
C.A.M 20 was flown by Colonial Western Airways. I have never seen any reference to Lindbergh flying for this company.
If you are interested in Lindberghhiana, try to find the American Air Mail Catalogue. It's in several volumes, so you would have to find the correct one for Lindbergh.
Anyhow, in 1928 here is what Lindbergh was doing according to the chronology in the catalogue.
1928
Feb. 6-8 Official West Indies Aerial Express mail carried in "Spirit of St. Louis"
Feb. 13 Flight from Havana to St. Louis, end of Latin American Goodwill Tour.
Feb. 20-21 Lindbergh Again Flies the Air Mail on CAM 2
Feb. 29 Addresses N.Y. State Legislature on pending aviation legislation.
Apr. 30 Last flight of "Spirit of St. Louis" before presentation to Smithsonian Institution.
May 22 Appointment as technical advisor to Transcontinental Air Trasport
May 28-31 First Survey of Transcontinental route for TAT.
Anyhow, that's all I can offer. Sorry I can't be anymore specific about your horseshoe, except that of all the Lindbergh things I've seen, including my own items, I've never seen that before. BUT it's there, so I would keep searching.
Here is one of my covers that Lindbergh flew partway. It was FAM 6. "Foreign Air Mail" route 6. Probably flown by Lindbergh from British Guiana to Miami, and then from there to Canada by someone else. The top isn't actually cut off. Just scanned too close to the edge.
C.A.M 2 Lindbergh Again Flies the Air Mail
Here is another Lindbergh cover......C. A. M. 2
This cover was in an old National album. Did some searching but couldn't determine if it
was actually carried on Lindbergh's plane. any help would be appreciated.
