What a nightmare trying to get a used one of an envelope.

Soaking apparently is not the solution, gladly the ones I have tried are in bulk so I expect to lose one or two during removal.

Someone mentioned a lemon citrus spray?

Open to other (POLITE) suggestions.

CLICK HERE to read an article from the American Philatelist (APS journal) of October 2010 on this very subject.

Hope this helps. I have never used it because I do not collect used self adhesive stamps.

Good Stamping! (or should I say "unsticking")

I used the solvent Bestine or Citrus Magic deodorant spray with some success. Still a pain in the neck and I don't like chemicals. Then you also have to use talcum powder on the back of the stamp because it is still sticky even though the paper is off...I will only remove the paper off one used stamp to mount in my album. The mint will stay either as sheets or blocks as they come to me from the post office in their sealed plastic envelopes.

The plastic envelopes from the post office are not philatelically intended, and will not protect the stamps. Examples have been found where the ink leached from the stamp onto the plastic. USPS has a warning on the packages where the plastic can damage the stamps.

re: Self adhesive stamps

Hi everyone;

I don't collect any Avery labels, only stamps. Some countries have self adhesives that still resemble postage stamps, and are easier to remove from envelopes. So if USPS can't seem to do this, then I don't collect them. I just clip off envelopes with scissors and sell as kiloware to someone foolish enough to collect them. If other countries can do this why can't all of them???

At one time some US issues were actually produced by Avery, the office sticker folks. Most new stamps don't even resemble stamps anymore, just pretty pictures designed to appeal to collectors.
