Ola John,
Welcome aboard the SOR group, where you will find many friendly folks that love to share their knowledge with new members, and we hope will be around for many years, or even decades.
The fellow you mentioned in your greeting was named John BlackWOOD, another good SOR member that is remembered and missed by many of us. We do consider ourselves as one big happy family here and as such do have family issues every once in a while, but we know that life goes on and we appreciate the time we have with each and every member we come in contact with. Many of us consider ourselves very lucky to have had a face to face "Meet and Greet" with another member of SOR and consider that a very special occasion and long remembered, treasured memory.

Ola, I gave up trying to use the fountain pen years ago. I love the look, the feel, the erudition by association, everything except for the poor writing quality, assuming any ink came out at all. i didn't mind the black fingers. i did mind the occasional ruined pocket, which seemed to take the entire shirt with it. I still love pens, though, and have an accumulation of fountain pens that, someday, i may try to resurrect.
it is unusual to my sorry imagination why you chose Eastern Europe in immediate post-Sovietization, ending in 65. I'd love to hear why.
And welcome. I hope to get to deal with you as frequently as i did with John Blackwood, who was a steady provider of tied seals. I miss his letters and his whimsical creations and his tied seals
David

p.s. I'm led to believe that there is a John Blackwell R.I.P. remembered fondly by Stamporama Member's - just so you know, there is no family connection. However, this namesake does plan to continue the association with Philately for a very VERY long time God willing
