HEY Big Mouth........the past is the past and when I put my chronicals in print you can buy the first book. I can say, part of my stamp collecting interest is because of some people I knew in the past and has given me great pleasure to collect philatelic material about these folks. Now Dan, confess all the folks you've cured in the looney bin so people will realize you're the real person of interest here, not me. Perry
Now,now Perry, I'm with Dan. I've know there are lots of stories there, but now that Dan has brought it up, I'd love to know more.
Tim.
Perry, Start with Disney and Rockford.
Dan C.
Well, as a teenager I was part of a program sponsored by the Walt Disney Studios. Since I was the president of the programs Walt invited me and another to the studio to have lunch with him. Well we went and he personally gave us a tour of the animation studios after a sitdown lunch in the commissary. During our walking around it came about that I had a great interest in model trains, and even though this was prior to Disneyland, Walt mentioned he had a model railroad at his home and that I should see it. Dah! Anyway I did make the trip to his house, lunch and ride on his model railroad with one of the nicest gentlemen I've ever met in my life. No big thing, just an adventure in life.
The other one, James Garner. You can decide what his character is about. I once owned a commercial photo studio whereas part of the projects was to film less famous as well as a few famous movie stars for the studios. One day a production manager approached me if i was possible to use my studio for a Rockford Files episode. Sure, why not. After creating a complete and total shutdown of my place shooting was scheduled. James Garner arrived and since he was not in the first few scenes he sat outside on his chair signing autographs for the sight-seer's. A woman from a bank down the street came for an autograph and told him that another woman at the bank was a hugh fan but could not get away from the bank, so she asked for a second autograph. Well mister Garner called his publicist to bring a polaroid camera and he walked to the bank, put his arms around the woman, and took a picture with her......now to me that made him a classy guy.
See no big deal, just being at the right place at the right time.
No my modest friend-it is a kind of big deal.
See gang-told ya!. Now ask about a ton of other stuff if you're interested. To my modest pal who'd be interested!!
Thanks for the sharing Perry.
Big Mouth
Perry -
That is soooo cool
I've met a few people who are "famous" but I've never been in their homes.
Go ahead, share more. Thank you Big Mouth (aka Dan for those of you who don't yet know him well) - you've opened a can of worms and intrigue
Well Dan, we would ask if we knew what the questions should be......perhaps you could mention a few more names to get Mr. Perry started again.
Mr. Perry, thanks for the stories. It's fun to hear slices of life from other's experiences. Kind of like a window back in time and a bit of a glimpse into the person telling the story. So thanks for sharing!
Sally
Great stories; this is so "six degrees of separation" isn't it? I know someone who knew Walt Disney and Jim Rockford!
Ah Sally, you are so on target. We have a time machine, and his name is Perry. Remember that he was with Disney before there was a DisneyWorld. And who would you think would be recording the earliest development of that magnificent enterprise-some photographer lost in the anneals of time, who has the photographic development rarely if ever seen-I wonder who that photographer might have been?
And that is but the beginning of the adventurers-which continue to this very day.Questions all to be asked-that is the key to unlock the time machine.
Buckle up and settle in-the ride is a wonder.
Big Mouth
Although it's interesting to have an audience of story telling on a stamp forum is bit off the subject, however I do have one concerning stamps.
While working for the USPS in Ridgecrest, CA, I was asked to display my collection at a first day cover signing and postmarking. Since my collection was of some value the post office had to get insurance and posted a guard by the collection while under glass throughout the program.
Only a limited supply of envelopes were printed and I bought most of them, had them signed and postmarked. Most I've given away throughout the years to friends or sellers in the auction as gifts but it was a rather fun time in my life. Nothing extraordinary but one of those memories in life one does not forget even in old age.
Perry - that's why we are in off-topic section.
The stories you have and Charlie has and so many others brings us closer in this virtual world because we start to see each other as people instead of names on a computer screen with an occasional picture
Perhaps Big Mouth can share his stories of his journey to becoming an ancient relic
Kelly
I agree about Dan, and any other member who wants to share.
Dear Kelly & Perry,
Kind of you guys to suggest that, and I thank you for it.I believe that I may be able to fulfill the intent behind the request by focusing upon what I may have learned to date, with the understanding that if I have not bored you to sleep with that then particular incidents will follow in time.
To me, at this stage of my journey,I now know that we are spirits in search of the human adventure. My religion teaches that we are all unique, with a mission to fulfill given to no one else-that we are following the path that is specific for us at this time.
Each and every one of us has a story of great worth to tell-our task is to have the patience to hear it, and the wisdom to learn from it.I have found that the snippets of truth shared by Z.T.Iwoknai are often telling and on target. (I came across her on the N.E.C.Iankowiz site-a poetess I have followed for several years now.)
Our own Zipper has much to offer along the lines of Zen, just saying! If anyone is still awake, let me know if this is something you'd wish to see continued.
All good thoughts,
Dan C.
Sharon gave me a chant to use back in 2012 when I was having my health problems, and to use at other times. I am open to these things and experiences. I do have to say that I think there was a definite positive affect from using the chant. I had forgotten about it until you (Dan) posted about her. I certainly could have used the chant in more recent times too. I have it back in my mind now to use again as needed.
I'm spilling the beans about my friend Perry-I just learned that he has wonderful tales to tell and nobody knows! As a photographer, he has hobnobbed with the famous and has stories about them that no one knows. All names of the famous are his to reveal, and trust me on this-there is a book or more of stuff.
This revelation will get me into hot water with him, but our friendship can withstand the transgression.I think that if you are interested in this discussion, you need to pressure Perry into sharing. He will not do so voluntarily-I know-I asked.
Consider this a 'draft Perry' petition to share some of his life's tales of those who we usually only see on stamps.
Dan C. (the big mouth!)
