General Philatelic/Gen. Discussion : Heading to the UK in May

I'll be in the UK in May, mostly in Southampton and on the Isle of Wight, but with a couple of days in Leicester, York, and Belfast. Anyone have suggestions on stamp related stores in these areas? Or know of any local or regional shows? I will have to drag my non-philatelist cousin along (she has the car!). Happy

Thanks.

You'd probably have more fun on the Isle of Wong.

Hi Peter,

You'll be able to say you have a "ticket to Ryde"! Happy

Do you plan to be in Surrey or London? It would be great to meet up if you have time.

All the best,
Nigel

I don't know where, or even if, there is an Isle of Wong, but the Isle of Wight is simply lovely, and in many ways unique in the UK.

I am jealous !!

I'll make up a list of shops/events for those places later if no one has done so before.

Thanks Mr. Bus!

Nigel, sadly, no, not this trip. This is a "visit with the cousins" trip so those are the areas where I'll be frequenting. I think we all might do a day trip to Canterbury since none of us has been there but that's about it. Not even London this time around.

Michael and Nigel: I love the Isle of Wight; I can enjoy the quieter pace until the Cowes come home. I certainly will visit Osborne House, where Queen Vickie stayed!

Forgot to ask my British friends: There used to be an eBay seller named "The Ten O'Clock Show" based out of Leicester; is that still around? I can't find much about it on the Internet.

That is so kind of you! But Coco is the least of my concerns; she will go to her daycare/spa for boarding, which really means a lot of indulgence. She gets to play with about 30 other dogs, gets treats twice a day, a bath and nail trim when I pick her up, and lots of attention as she is the favorite of the center. Happy

re: Heading to the UK in May

This is the best I could do (for now):

FAIRS.

Leicester May 3rd, Holiday Inn. Stamp Fair. Tel: 0116 2350441. Phone for further dates(Venue may have changed to the YMCA)
Derby (nice drive from Leicester) May 10th, Nunsfield House Community Centre, Tel: 01909 563394
Southampton, May 24th, St.James Road Methodist Hall,Shirley. Tel: 01489 582673 Phone this number for other local fairs.

There will be more and I will update when I get a later edition of the NPS Journal.

SHOPS.

A 20-mile drive NW of Southampton will bring you to the lovely town of Salisbury with it's famous Cathedral. The excellent Dauwalders Stamp Shop (Fisherton St) is a must for any collector. Check out the website.

Wow! Thank you so much! I will miss the shows as I arrive the morning of May 12th. We will head up to Leicester for the day on the 16th and stay overnight at York through the 17th, when we head to Belfast for the weekend. Then back down to the Isle of Wight and Southampton, and day tours from there (Salisbury was done last time but I'm happy to go again now!). Battle near Hastings, Canterbury, and Winchester are on the list this time around.
