And, the cover that made my day.

This is a quadruple air mail rate, 30c per half ounce for up to four ounces, the $1.20 being paid by a pair of 50c transports and a pair of 10c transports. The rate was in effect from April 28 1939 to November 1, 1946. Finding the 50c transport, C31, on any non-philatelic cover, is a challenge; finding a pair is a real treat. The envelpe was mailed at the tail end of the rate, when rates would be halved.

There are at least four strikes of a Parkchester (Bronx) NY duplex hand cancel.

I've never been able to get too excited over rates, but David's post piqued my interest. I've had the following cover for several years. I bought it because I've always liked the Transport Issue, and I didn't have any covers franked with the 50-cent Transport stamp. My cover was postmarked in Illinois on December 6, 1946, so I assume that the new rate was in effect. The cover must have been fairly heavy, since it seems to have required even more postage than David's cover. Or, perhaps, the rate to Czechoslovakia was more than the rate to Denmark.

I have another, similar cover posted by the same person to the same recipient; it was posted Feb. 25, 1947, and is franked with a 50-cent Transport and a 15-cent Prexie for a total of 75 cents.

Bob, thats a great cover to Czechoslovakia. Yes, new 15c per 1/2 ounce rate. Dont have the ratio ok, so i dont know the registration fee. The rate to any part of Europe was identical, although there were other rates, for instance, to South America.

Your 75c cover would be a nice five step (2.5 ounce) example.
Both are rather uncommon usages and quite nice
