I am searching for a dealer specializing in or at least offering a wide range of stamps issued by the People's Republic of China. Specifically, I'm looking for Chinese stamps issued in support of communist or other popular "people's" insurgencies or governments around the world, e.g. North Vietnam, Algeria, Cuba.

re: PRC dealers?

Bob:

Michael Rogers out of Florida is probably the top China specialist firm in the US. In addition to their mail and traditional auctions, they also have fixed priced lists for certain countries, including PRC.

However, I just went to find the link to the price lists for you, and they say they've taken them down while they're traveling to shows, and will put them up again (hopefully reflecting their recent sales and purchases) in mid-April. Since that's not too long from now, here's the link:

If you can find out the Scott numbers that you're looking for, Bidstart is a possibility. In addition to searching that way, there is also the capability there for you to create a wantlist by country and scott number, and the system will notify you when anybody lists that item. You can also save searches.

Here's a link to the stamps home page:
http://stampwants-stamps.bidstart.com/

and to China specifically:
http://stampwants-stamps.bidstart.com/China-/1857/c.html

Note that the China category also has Taiwan and pre-PRC China as well, but that shouldn't be too big of a hurdle. (I imagine this will get addressed in the rollout of their new site later on this year.)

Hope that's a bit helpful!
