I've had an interest in stamps for several years but never knew how to do anything with them besides sticking them in a box. In the fall I was at a teaching conference and attended a workshop regarding ways to use stamps in the classroom. I got some advice from the presenter and now I'm hooked. I have a stock book and recently got my hands on a 2012 copy of the Unitrade Specialized Canadian Cataloque. I love looking up my stamps and learning about when they were issued and why.
My stamp collecting interest has two veins.
First National: I am interested in collecting all Canadian stamps from any year.
Topical: I really like butterflies so any stamps of butterflies I can get my hands on will be awesome. Secondly, stamps with dinosaurs because I just think it is too cool when dinosaurs show up on stamps. I don't know why.
Due to my work schedule I am not able to be a part of my local stamp club so I am very excited to find a stamp collecting community here!

Glad to have you Meghan! I reiterate Peter's suggestion that you check the approvals section and the auction board regularly - you will find a lot of the material you collect at much lower prices than you would pay a dealer.

Hello Meghan,
Welcome aboard the good ship "Stamp-O-Rama", that many from the frozen tundra of Canada's Winter Wonderland like to cruise, since most of our cruises are in the warmer climes, much closer to the Equator, where it is always warm and sunny, with lots of Butterflies.

Hi Meghan;
I saw some stamps from Israel somewhere in my collection in an envelope at one time, and altho I looked, I was unable to find them. You may want to collect them MNH w/tabs.
Each stamp in the set depicted a different butterfly, and the tab depicted the caterpillar for that same butterfly. I thought it was a very interesting way to show the insect in both of it's life cycles.
I'm also new on here, and I also live in a very rural setting. I'm in Bitely Michigan, in the back woods, and I heat with wood. I have more bears, cougars, coyotes and wild pigs for neighbors than people. but it is to me a very idyllic place to live, and the high tree canopy is like a great cathedral.
