Good morning, I thought I would use this as a way to advsertise my interest in precancels of the stamps of France of the 20th Century up to the last issue of the Semeuse or Sower stamps with a particular interest in in the Blanc and both Semeuse issues.

Here is an example of a precancel

Thank you to Revstampman who posted below the most common of precancels (which I also seek).

Thanks!

Antonio

re: Precancelled Stamps of France - Sower series and earlier

I already posted something some time ago about French precancelled.
Beware of counterfeits, especially for the 1893-1923 time period, which can run you a pretty penny if genuine! I would worry about anything with a catalog value above a few Euro, if offered without certificate. Beware even of signed stamps, and stamps from dealers!
The French Ebay site is full of offers for these, ranging in price from 1 to 10 Euros. They (aaah clever linguistic deception)all say GENUINE STAMP.."the overprint may be recent"! or in French: """ TIMBRE AUTHENTIQUE, MAIS LA SURCHARGE N´EST PROBABLEMENT PAS D´EPOQUE """
And to justify it : """ ils rempliront la case désespérément vide de vos albums vu leur rareté et leurs prix extravagants. """
In other word it is a fake o/p, but it will plug a hole in your album. Not noted as such on the back of the stamp....so problems ahead for anyone who collects them!!
Still fun to collect!, and here is my page one (none is unfortunately genuine).
