Early on I got the collecting bug for postal markings. Here is one in a great font from Lawrence, Kansas.

The cover was sent from Burns, Kansas to Saint Lawrence, South Dakota. Anyone familiar with western Kansas knows that Lawrence is one of the big towns on that side of the state, so I suspect this kind of mistake was made more than once. Once it got to Lawrence, KS, it got a American Postal machine cancel for a receiving cancel, the cover was cancelled again from Lawrence and a "Missent" marking applied, after which it was successfully sent to Lawrence, SD.

I can't imagine it got delayed by more than a day or two, but who knows, perhaps the contents were eagerly awaited.

St. Lawrence, South Dakota is a far cry, at least in name, from Lawrence, Kansas, which is just West of Kansas City, Kansas. Quantrill's raiders didn't have any trouble finding the correct Lawrence during the American Civil War.

Another great cover you have Antonio!

Because I like to fiddle around with things like this, I used Retroreveal.org to analyze the received cancel from St. Lawrence, SD. The cancel is doubled but I can just make out the number 7. Most likely then this cover was received on the 17th, making the delay only a day in length.

Since you are interested in postal markings, may I recommend the Auxiliary Markings Club as a suitable group to consider joining? I have been a member for a few years now. There is an excellent quarterly publication (in color) and a catalog (online) of postal markings. Their website is http://www.postal-markings.org/.

True. I would like to belong to many clubs and societies (and have). I just can't afford to belong to them all.

Here is the completed page as it is my collection. I scanned it in the page protector which caused all the shading you see.
