happy 40th collecting anniversary Janet. glad to have you aboard.
Hi Janet, Welcome to Stamporama, I know you will enjoy this site as well, there are some similarities but also many differences but all good.
Hi Janet;
I'm Ken, and I'm new on here too, I joined on June 2nd. I've already had three sales on here, two in approvals, and one private sale of a very expensive postcard.
The members here are very friendly and knowledgeable.
That is a really cool dragon. Are you a sword/sorcery fan. When I was in the US Navy I liked to read Tolkiem's stories. I remember the Grey Wolfen, and many other fictions. When in the Navy, we were stationed in the Middle East (Persian Gulf). Most of what we could buy was from Britain. When I went into town I would buy fictions to read. I became very fond of the writings of the English author Dennis Wheatley, he wrote "The Ka of Gifford Hillary" and "The Satinist".
You mentioned you like precancels. Do you collect forign precancels? I'm sorting 4,500 France and it is loaded with some nice precancels. Some five or six French stamps were only issued as precancels. I think a specialized collection of precancels from many nations would be very fun.
If you have a lot of duplicates to sell, maybe you could make a book of approvals on here.
Gotta' go, there is a can of Mackerel in the fridge that's calling my cat's name.
Happy collecting everyone.

Hi Ken
Thank you for the dragon compliment. I collect about any dragon stamp I can get my hands on and also lighthouses. My house and patio are full of lighthouses, shells, paintings (anything ocean related).
I do have a few precancels from other countries including France and I think I have a few dupes too.
Back in the day I was a huge D&D player and now I am a World of Warcraft player. Almost every night you can find me playing that. I even have a Dragon Mount that I ride around on there. lol I'm not a huge fan of books of that time. I'm more of a true crime reader.
Welcome to the club. I am a new member too; but started mostly from scratch.
Welcome Janet!

Welcome Janet!!! Yay another lady! A few weeks ago I took a peek at the "who is online" list and for the first time, us gals outnumbered the fellas! The face (and figure) of stamp collecting is changing.
Yes indeed, welcome to Janet, and all of the other new members who've joined recently, and any other new members I haven't welcomed. The club seems to have been growing at breakneck speed lately. What a change since the early, early days when it was started by Jerry Abern, who sent an occasional dead-tree newsletter to a handful of us "charter members".
Philatelia's comment about having a majority of female members is interesting. I've belonged to just two "off-line" stamp clubs as an adult, and neither of them ever had more than two or three women at any given time, giving the impression that there aren't nearly as many female as male collectors. In my experience with VANPEX in Vancouver, as chair and exhibits chair at various times, about 97% of exhibitors are male. Could it be that women are so darned busy at work at their place of business and at work in their homes (while their "menfolk" work on their stamp collections) that they just don't have time to mess about with stamps? I think so. Could it be that because they usually earn less than men for the same work that they don't have enough money to buy stamps and covers? I think so. But at least here at Stamporama we seem to be breaking the mould!

Hi Janet
Welcome to the club. It is nice to see another female. I know you will enjoy being a member.
Speaking of females at stamp clubs, my local Hamilton stamp club has about 150 members. I think there are 6 females.
Another live stamp club I belonged to had 37 members at the time I was going. For most of the years that I was a member I was the only female. Others would come and go, but usually never came that often and then they would suddenly not come back. I don't think it was because there were no other females though. I think it was just their lives were too full with family and other things.
Enjoy yourself Janet.
Have a great day, everyone.
Suzanne
Welcome Janet!
My main collections are Germany and Russia - good stuff
Glad to have you here at SOR

Welcome Janet...This is an awesome group of stampers.....I brag them up whenever I can...Certainly have been kind and helpful to this gal!
My name is Janet and I've been here about a month but never did post an introduction. Sorry. I am a member of another board and heard about this one over there so had to come over and check it out. Lots of great discussions and I enjoy the approvals and auctions.
I have been collecting since about 1974 when I received a collection that was started by my great grandfather on his retirement. He grew bored with it and gave it to my Mom for me or my brother. Well it got put away in the attic. One day when we were going through there I found it and my brother didn't want it (whew!!). I have gone through spurts with it as far as working on it. For the last 10 years I have been buying stamps and getting stamps from friends but have just been putting them in tubs sorted by countries. Last year I decided now that I can't work it was time to do something with them. I have the 4-
Vol Harris WW album but have also been using Steiner pages for certain countries that I am concentrating on: Australia, Canada, Germany, Great Britain (inc Machins), and Russia for now. I am currently on an A-Z journey through my WW putting all these stamps away. It has taken me almost 1 1/2 years to get to Germany.
My US is going great. I have the Mystic American Heirloom Albums and so enjoy my US collection. I am also a precancel collector.
I have received several PM's requesting trades for some of my WW. When I finish DDR I will try to get some lists together as to what I have from A-G available.
