Help with these would be appreciated. Were these receipt stamps given to the consumer by the vendor or to the vendor by the state? What sort of goods are represented here? Most revenue stamps indicate the goods or services taxed (wine, tobacco, etc.), but these are rather generic.

This link refers to a reply on another site that explains them as receipts for state sales tax paid on purchase of goods.

I didn't see the Vendor's receipt stamps, but I am thinking that the ones I have are the left half of the ones illustrated - right half was given to the consumer and the Vendor retained the left half for his records. Thanks Vic, my curiosity is 95% sated!

re: Ohio Vendor's Receipt stamps

Hi everyone;

I did a good bit of research on these a while back. The one I have is complete, imperforate, rouletted between. I think if I remember, that form of separation is rather rare. Also the last two you show, seem to be rouletted between also, but have serial No.s in the margin, which Mine doesn't.

I just assumed because I looked at many dozens of these on the web and on eBay, and none of them were like mine, then mine would be worth more as a collectible.

Yes! Thanks Vic & Ken. I actually found an intact stamp (both sides still joined/unused). I am not interested in buying, I was just curious about them. The 5 I illustrated I acquired in a batch of early 20th century US.
