I need some help. I came across a stamp in my stock book that is a 1059a, but the thing is that it has no gum and is printed on thick paper. It seems to me like it was made with no gum. Has anyone come across this before? Is this a special variety?

The catalog lists a dull finish gum variety (b. Variety), but I really can't see any gum at all. The paper doesnt feel like it has any gum.

Any help is appreciated.

re: Paul Revere (Scott #1059a)

The dull gum variety was printed in 1980. Many stamps with the dull gum can be hard to tell if the gum is still on the stamp. However, try looking at the back of the same stamp that you know is used and the gum has been soaked off of. Then compare it with the stamp you have a question on. The paper on the back of the used stamp will be whiter than the stamp with the dull gum. The dull gum will have a slight yellowish tint.

I am suspecting that your stamp does have dull gum on it. The ink transference on the back is common for this stamp.

I don't suppose you have one? If not, do you know anyone who might have one I could buy?

Thanks!

Steven,

I got the stamp you sent: many thanks. It was obvious once I put my stamp next to the one you sent that it is the dull gum variety. Your help is most appreciated!
