Yes, it looks even now that it was packed pretty full. I'd say a long letter from her Mom.

I see why you read that 3 as a 7; it looks like the European (hence Australian) style 7, never in use in the states.
and yes, double-weight cover. that 3c only moved the first half ounce.

This is an interest cover from Hastings MN to Aurora NY that has what seems to be a postage due stamp for 7 cents. Am I reading this correctly? Can anyone tell me what the correct postage should have been from Hastings MN to Aurora NY in 1873?
I'm fairly sure that this was cancelled in 1873 (or perhaps 1874) because Miss Florence LeDuc only attended Wells College in 1873 and 1874. She was called home in 1874 due financial problems that her father had.
