If you want to think outside the box, try NOT using albums hinges and mounts altogether and start using Vario and Hagnar stock pages or stock books. They are a bit pricy up front, but I like that I can arrange and rearrange the pages whenever and they fit in any old 3 ring binder. And I never have to worry about damaging stamps with hinges or mounts and I never have to do supplements. Easy Peasy! I collect both mint and used and no albums are designed to do that.
Just wanted to let you know that there are many options. Whatever you decide, make sure you enjoy what you're using. It is supposed to be fun! Happy stampin'!
I personally need/want an album as a “roadmap†to follow.
Collecting the world with Steiner pages, even up to 1940, will take a lot of space. Steiner has something like 6500 pages for classic-era stamps, which would require 40+ binders to house.
You might look into the Scott International Part 1 (1840-1940), which now comes in 4 volumes.
Hi Everyone;
@ stockflier;
If you print out the Steiner pages, try an off-white stock more like the Scott albums use.
I think it looks nice when Steiner pages are printed on that stock. I've seen a lot of ex-
amples from the club posted on here.
Just thinkin' again....

For the Steiner pages, I use 24 lb. Ivory.
Just trivia - I see many Harris album collections where the pages have spaces for se-tenant stamps, and the singles from those. Yes, all the spaces are filled with unused or MNH stamps. That was not the purpose of the single spaces. A long, long time ago, someone (STAMPS Magazine, I believe) asked HE Harris why his album pages included those spaces as it seemed duplicitous. His answer was that the single spaces were intended for collecting the used versions of the stamps. I have yet to see a collection where the singles are anything other than the se-tenant unused or MNH stamps broken apart.
stockflyer,
Of course, if you only 'print as you go' meaning that you only print out the Steiner pages that you have stamps for, then if could take several years before you get to the level of needing 40+ binders.
Also, keep in mind that if you use something like the Staples 67lb cover stock, this will require approx. twice the amount of space (binders, shelf space, etc.) as if you were to use a thinner paper. I currently use both Scott International and Steiner, and for my Steiner pages, I use a cream colored 70 lb text (not cover/card stock). I can get it form Amazon for $23 for 500 sheets, plus free shipping.
Plus, with Steiner pages, there are ways to modify them to suit your needs.
"Looking for advice. Not sure if anyone here will give any, but worth a shot. Happy
I am just getting back to the hobby. Had my worldwide stamps in a Statesman album from the 70's. So I went out and found that it is now split into 2 albums. So I bought them. Thought I could just merge them together, old and new and have the last 30 years caught up. Boy was I wrong.
for example, I have a few hundred stamps from Canada to 1970. New book gives like 2 pages for all that. It happens with all the countries. I can't believe they messed with what was a decent lower level book. I wasted my money and now need to know where to go next.
I found the Steiner pages and printed them out for the US and have started to move my US to them. I don't care for the hard pages, so went with 32 pound acid free white. I like how they are turning out. Don't like that the blocks are only shown that way with no singles, but I can edit the PDFs and create new pages for those few when I need to.
For the world, should I just do the same thing? I am also thinking about trying to get a used set of the Scott's albums, 6 volumes I think. Kinda comparing the cost of printing etc.
I know I'm not the only one who started down a path that turned out to be wrong and would like to hear what others have found to work for them.
Thanks in advance."
Hi All,
I ran across this thread today. From several years back. I've had an eventful 5 years since this post, but I must say I've had my challenges and a lot of fun. Right after I asked this I had a stroke which caused a roadbump in my life. I've come back a long way and if you didn't know I had a stroke you wouldn't have a clue. You would notice a little something but not sure what.
What I've been doing. Took many different ideas here and this is what I find working for me. I am using creme colored 24 pound stock acid free. Printing Steiner as I need it. I took Tuscan Raiders idea, I think, and bind this in little booklets by country or whatever organization I am looking for. Some like Bulgaria takes 3 booklets. It is slowly replacing all the books in my library because it does take a lot of space. But I have it, at least until my wife tells me I'm don't.
Back to stroke. I would sit at my desk and turn left and right. Getting a stamp, identifying it and put it into my new book. This worked as therapy since each time I turned my head I got nauseous and dizzy. Could only work for maybe 10 min. Results. I don't have an issue any more turning my head.
So, I just wanted to close the loop but it took me a while. Thanks everyone and have a Great Day!
Welcome back!
Welcome back!
Glad you are doing so well.

The problem is that after 1970, countries around the world issued a huge number of stamps. All the Harris Worldwide Albums are like as you described. Even the Harris Canada is two volumes.
There are a lot more stamps out there compared to 50 years ago.

Welcome back and very glad to hear of your recovery.
