So maybe I've picked the right category and maybe I haven't. I just don't know where to place a new thread without it being shut down. So if it is in the wrong place, I'm sure I'll get my hands smacked.
Can anybody help Doe to find some more stamps with Onions on them?

Because that was not done, Bobby closed the thread. I'm sure that members who are able to help Doe will happily contact her. In the meantime, if a discussion is to be had regarding onions on stamps and not Doe's specific request which has already been stated and clarified, this is a fine place to do so.

Folk, this is not a complicated issue and I do not want to start a "posting war" here. I am not the big, bad moderator who is trying to shut down discussions, just a volunteer member who is trying to see that the rules governing this website are complied with.
The section of the discussion board where Doe's post is situated is a special section created for the benefit of the members so that they can Buy, Sell, and Trade stamps. If you have not done so before, please read Rule #4 HERE, and specifically the portion which states:
"Please do not "spam" other members' email notifications by conducting private communications on the discussion board. Specifically, do not work out the details of a trade, an offer for sale, or an offer to buy, in public view. "
Last year, I requested that the VC at least permit responses to the extent that clarification of requests could be sought, and the VC made that "unwritten" exception to the rule. However, only the first response by amsd, and Doe's subsequent answer, qualify as exceptions to the rule. Still, I permitted 2 more responses in violation of the rule before making a request to stop responding. That polite request was ignored, leaving me with three alternatives: (1) permit responses to continue in violation of the VC's authority; (2) delete all inappropriate responses; or (3) close the thread. I chose the latter.
If you do not like the rule, initiate a request to change it, but do not flout the authority of the VC by continuing to post in violation of the clearly stated admonition not to.
We have myriad topics in which to discuss everything under the sun. If you want to talk about onion stamps, this thread started by purrfin2 is the perfect place; but do not initiate discussions in the Buy, Sell and Swap sections, they will not be permitted.
In that same vein, do not initiate Buy, Sell or Trade requests anywhere but that section, they will be moved to that section by the moderators. There is a place for everything on this discussion board. Please help us and your fellow members keep the discussion board organized so that all members can more easily locate what they seek.

Also, remember that posts in the Buy, Sell and Trade area are deleted after only 60 days, while on all the other categories, the posts remain.
If a good, informative discussion gets going in the Buy, Sell and Trade area, they will be deleted. That would be a waste of information. As suggested, best to start topical discussions about the items being offered in the Buy, Sell and Trade area in more appropriate areas to preserve what was discussed.

Hey wasn't this post about onions? Aren't you moderators turning this Onion discussion into another talk about the rules? LOL Kind of a Catch-22. You know I'm teasing you right? Ha ha
In any case - I loved the discussion about a topic and where do you draw the line. Does the onion on a hamburger count? BTW wasn't asking about the sliced onions a legitimate query to her request? In any case, let's talk vegies!
I also thought the idea about fast food on stamps was clever.
Now do you include scallions or green onions too? How about Shallots?

I don't know of too many stamps depicting onions. I can think of a couple from Bulgaria. Also, a few decades ago Singapore issued several souvenir sheets regarding trade. One of the sheets featured McDonald's.

I'm surprised that China doesn't have a stamp celebrating onions because, according to Wikipedia, they are by far the world leader with 20+ metric tons annually followed by India 8+ and rounding out the top three the US with 3+ huh, who would have thought it

There's a 1989 Great Britain stamp (Scott 1248) with a variety of vegetables which appears to include onions.

Bermuda should at least have one stamp with an Onion on it, since that's what the Bermudans call themselves. While I was there I good naturally asked several people if they were Onion's and they all responded "yes".

Onions may make you cry, but they are more popular than potatoes. How do I know that?

Oh I wouldn't have thought that. If I were to choose for myself, I would do potatoes, but my dad loves onions.
One kindly topical dealer said that I was the first person to ask for onions on stamps, and he had been selling for 20 years. He also said that if I found any in his binders, to please buy them because he does not like onions. LOL

To me the obvious choice is the category Topicals, which encompasses Butterflies, Fish, Trains, Red Cross, Boy Scouts, Composers ... and Onions. Available categories on the DB are accessible by clicking "Show Topics" at top. Click on the category, then click "Start New Thread," done.

You are correct, Doe;
Traditional Cuban black bean soup has onion in it's recipe ( I LOVE black bean soup!)
And the yellow rice and chicken recipe calls for onion as well.......good find!

The chicken recipe has onion in it, but I think that on that 40c stamp the white vegetable pictured is garlic, judging by the shape (which is also in the recipe).
In July 2015 New Zealand issued a sheet of 18 stamps celebrating Kiwi Kitchen. The top right stamp shows Tasty Kiwi Onion Dip, with an onion about to take a dip in a pool:

A quick keyword sort on "onion" on bitstart yielded enough onions for an onion soup!
Including many I had never seen before..not that I was looking (Alderney # 473 mnh ~ 55p Mouse, Onions, Israel 205 USED 1961 Flowers, Sea Onion, and have you thought of it...onionskin paper)

On the 40 stamp, you are correct that there is garlic pictured; however, there is also an onion at top center of the stamp as well - a yellow one.

Turkey - 2005 "medicinal plants" set of 3 (leeks,garlic,onion)
Tuvalu - 2014 "root vegetables" mini-sheet of 4 (kohlrabi,turnip,sweet potato,onion)
Israel - 2015 set of 5 (carrot,red cabbage,lettuce,tomato,onion)
Bulgaria - 1958 set of 6 (onion,garlic,pepper,tomato,cucumber,eggplant)
Libya - 2014 set of 6 (onion,garlic,pepper,tomato,potato,eggplant)
Brazil - 1982 "agricultural products" set of 11 (not going to list them all, but onion is one)
Sweden - 2003 "harvest time" set of 4, with various veggies. 2 of them do show onion.
Switzerland - 2012 issued an onion bloom don't know if you would want to include it.
Taiwan - 1993 set of 3 for anniversary of AVRDC (Asian Vegetable Research and Development Centre) one has an onion, among other veggies
that should get you started.
