Glad you liked the care package, Phil. Did the Canadian defencemen souvenir sheet survive the trip? I covered it in plastic.
I hope you saluted the envelope with the $5 Maple Leaf Flag on it!
Post a picture of the flag stamp... it's a beuaty!
David
David, will post a picture when removed from the envelope..yes the defenceman sheet...very well covered in plastic is great also.Jopie wants to assist in removing that one. The Canadian stamp news were great reading also !
Looks great, Phil!
The postal clerks are not cancelling the Maple Leaf, so as not to deface the national emblem.
David
I recently sent a SOR member a package with the $5 flag and everything was hand cancelled and indeed, she cancelled it below the maple leaf, exactly as David said so as not to deface our national emblem. The girls and guys who work at our outlet do the same with stamps of the Queen - it is cancelled but respectfully which I think is rather nice.
I'm hoping that no one takes a sharpie to package before it arrives!
The girl at the post office said that the US are notoriously known for their sharpies! LOL
That is a beautiful stamp. I can't wait to get the package

I'd give that young lady a seasoned $10.00 Romeo y Julietta" except that it is no laughing matter to collectors who have been victimized by otherwise beautiful lightly cancelled commemoratives destroyed by worn, blunt Sharpies.
We have become used to obliterating the Stars and Stripes here, as the flag has been used so many times as routine postage.
funny thing... since the discussions on the board made me more alert.... this week I got two more packages internal in the USA, with collectible stamps on them that have no cancellations at all! And the package from Buck A Cover in Canada has one nicely applied and centered cancel!
I believe that Roy does his own cancellations. They're always perfect. I think he is licensed by Canada Post to do that.

Geeze...and I thought it was out of respect for the beloved Toronto Maple Leafs Hockey Team
Bobgggg: You meant the beloved Montreal Canadiens!
Incidentally, the postal clerks at Postal Station E, in Ottawa, also respectfully cancel the stamps with Her Majesty on them, as well.
I will use a few more Maple Leaf stamps this forthcoming week, as Wednesday is Dominion Day.
David
I'm so excited!
Time to say Thank You US Post Office ... Kelly, two words for you ...
No Sharpie!
Thank you, Kelly, you are the best!
One of David Giles favorite sayings is "Thank You America!" but today i have to say Thank You Canada...i received two large envelopes (12x14 inches?) One is franked with the cloth or silk flag and the warning Do not soak ! and is filled with U.S. precancels off and on paper...many of which are Prexies! I did not have a Prexie precancel collection before but i will start one now ! Thanks David i will see what i can scare up for you ! phil
