I'm a worldwide collector based in the Netherlands, collecting for 25+ years. My main collecting interest is how stamps reflect world history. Based on that I have set up my collection which currently counts some 25,000 stamps from some 1,800 stamp issuing entities. One of the things I like to do most maybe is research on the historical context of stamps issued. To share knowledge and to gain knowledge on that is why I'm happy to join StampoRama.

Another voice from the Netherlands! You are most welcome. As a fellow world history nerd, I am always excited to hear such enthusiasm for that particular discipline.

Indeed we do. Cool

Welcome SWH! (And check out his Stamp World History website if you haven't before - superb!)

(Edit: I see Gerben has already introduced his website on another thread- check it out. Happy )

Actually, I think there has been a recent uptick in collecting WW - at least to a certain year cutoff. (Mine is 1840-1940.)

We have four collectors in our medium sized city stamp club that have the whole world as their oyster. Big Grin

I have always been a ww collector - and I am also interested in both history and geography( although I would baulk at calling myself a student). I don't see how you can collect stamps and not have at least a passing interest in both subjects. The only thing is what came first in your life -history/geography or stamps.

For geographers can I put in a plea for the collection of postmarks. With centralised modern postmarks not so easy, except as a study of post office progressive modernisation, but old postmarks are informative. Use Wikipedia to find out about the place.
