I probably spend more in a year travelling to stamp shows than on the stamps themselves. I see dealers selling worldwide collections in albums for 10 percent of catalog so i can only imagine what they pay for them .Yet i never tire of the hunt..i buy their country pages to fill 2 or 3 spaces in an album...in this case its no exaggeration to say i love what i am doing and i am never bored !Happy

Agreed. I go to hobby events more for the camaraderie and to meet up with friends. Sometimes I've actually bought nothing, but had a great time talking and looking at exhibits.!and I'm very good at lunch.

re: I do it for me !

Boredom is a killer and stamps is good medicine!
I have been out of the local (K.C. & Lawrence) for ten years or so.
Pretty much when my WW collecting buddy and very good friend sold off his collection and his brick and mortar stamp auction house. Last time I heard it was still going but I should check it out, as well as current dealers etc. I do not care for large cities I tend to stay away but I really should get out there and see what long lost friends and aquaintensons are still around. When I stopped doing it, it seemed like lots of collectors were dying out. A few were friends that seriously collected the world. I have to wonder if any one is left. I least I'm pretty sure that no one died of boredom

re: I do it for me !

I do it me also. I love what I do. Since I picked up the hobby again about twenty five years ago I have been having loads of fun. I became active in clubs and shows from the start. I didn't just attend shows but was active in working them either as a volunteer or helping a friend work his table when he traveled to other shows. I even spent some time describing for Nutmeg when they were in business. when I travel to shows I try to tie in a mini vacation in the host city. Stamp collecting has taken me to places I probably wouldn't normally seen. I have many friends in the hobby and look forward to visiting them when I travel. There are so many benefits I get from collecting and these were just a few.

My annual holidays are built entirely around Stamp events.
Is there any other way to plan a vacation ?

Yes, absolutely, but they are not as rewarding.
