This cover was of dual interest to me...i collect covers and cards from the Chicago Century of Progress and also my birthday is January 1. I also liked the postmark with Manila P.I. At times it takes me a bit to notice all that a cover can provide, The U.S.S. Bittern was a Minesweeper.Image Not Found

re: U.S.S. Bittern

I guess you can not "take the history out of the boy" ever since they taught me to read in the primary grades i was taking books home from the library...ancient Rome, Knights in armor and on and on. Stamps (and later covers) just seemed like a natural progression. When we moved upstate we had a stamp club of sorts going at school..more girls than boys but it seems more boys come back to the hobby later in life.
