When I got to the APS, I was given a personal tour and was blown away by the Library. I spent a bunch of time in going through the donated stamps and covers. I would highly recommend visiting both places if you get the chance.
Here a few items I picked up at the APS...
Here is one of the reasons I am for vaccinations.
Even rich people get sick... The Van Vleck Gardens are just a couple miles from my house.

Here is a somber cover. Check the return address and the date the cover was postmarked. Who knew what would have occurred exactly one year later...

I just rejoined the APS after a 10 year break. Your post really makes me want to get up there. The trade center cover is WOW. Very thought provoking. Thank you for sharing that.

Ernie, Welcome back..the APS needs the young blood ! I was out to the old Hq. in State College twice and the new barn once. The staff there is fantastic..i was afraid to ask them too much because they would bend over backwards to do it. I have not made the trip to Subway but they usually come to a couple of big shows every year with their stuff.

I had the same response on the cover - "oh wow".
There's a piece of reality in your hands.
You see addresses of homes that are long gone but then you see that address and it hits you a lot differently. The postmark date included is a double wow.
I like the old medical sheet as well. First thing I noticed was the "191..." to add the year. Made me chuckle because I remember when 2000 came along and we all were standing there with cheques that said 19.. and scratching our heads wondering how we were going to use them. I went to the bank and they said "oh just cross out the 19, add a 20 and initial it. Everything is outta whack anyway!"

I just got home from visiting the APS Headquarters in Bellefonte, PA. I had such a great time. Coming from NJ, I decided to drive an extra hour to visit Subway Stamps in Altoona. Cross 2 things off my bucket list. At both places, I couldn't have been treated nicer. I got see the stacks of catalogs/literature in the warehouse at Subway. Another benefit is that the Boyer Chocolate Factory was right near Subway and bought a bunch of chocolate.

A Service Dog gives a person with a disability independence. Never approach, distract or pet a working dog, especially when (s)he is in harness. Never be afraid to ask questions to the handler (parent).
