1941 France Legion Des Volantaires
They were sold in aid of a French wartime collaborationist organization
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Legion_of_French_Volunteers_Against_Bolshevism
They are listed in the Maury catalogue at €20 each mint. Higher if used and even higher if on cover in period.

most of this is correct, except the part about going in your album, Phil. That is not where they should be filed.

The Warfare History Network offers an interesting article about the squadron, French Aces on the Eastern Front: The Normandie-Niemen Squadron.

Bob, too bad you are so far away...you would enjoy Cole Palens World War 1 Aerodrome,,about a 20 minute walk down the back road from me. It was better 30 years ago when Cole was alive, he was the chief cook and bottlewasher..playing the villan in the Red Barons plane...his wife sold out and its more commercial now.Image Not Found
