As a Packers fan who thinks that the Patriots have won far too many titles, and who cannot abide any success on the part of the Vikings, I'll be rooting for a Philadephia - Jacksonville final.
Since Blake Bortles is a UCF (The REAL National College FB Champions this year BTW) grad and is from not too far from where I live in East Orlando, I have been rooting
for Jacksonville.
GO JAGS!
I thought this thread was going to be about Partick Thistle
nigelc:-
I'm surprised that you have heard of Partick Thistle away down there in Engalaland!
I could have been meaning Inverness Caledonian Thistle or even Buckie Thistle!!
(All Scottish Soccer Teams).
I am not a big pro football fan but like the underdog. Vikings seem to be deserving.
philb:-
It was a terrible way to lose a game.
All that effort lost on one guy's brainstorm. What he must be feeling!!!
Thought the thread was about cars, guessed wrong again. Presume it is about American football teams.
Oh well back to the stamp sorting.
It took me a while to figure this out too, and I still don't really get it. Does this mean there are actually people outside the USA who understand and like American Football?
jansimon:- Where have you been hiding during the last few decades?
There was a European American Football League a few years back.
Every year there are a couple of NFL regular season games played in London!
Sheepshanks:- Have you got your order in at Jaguar for their new £1,000,000 Supercar?
I have, solely on the fortune I have made here on Stamporama, (Hee Hee Hee)
"There was a European American Football League a few years back."
"Every year there are a couple of NFL regular season games played in London!"
Don't think I could even afford the hub cap off that supercar. Did have friend in the 60's who owned an E type, his girlfriend had the door open when she backed it into the garage. He was a little miffed at the damage.
jansimon:- I must admit the North Americans do let their games drag on a bit. Its not just American Football its also Baseball and even some Ice Hockey games.
As for being the 51st State I shall treat that remark with the complete and utter contempt it deserves. I have been insulted in better places by better folks (Hee Hee Hee)!!!
For a good long game you can't beat test cricket!
nigelc:- Not if your England in Australia.
They were doing well last year. Bairstow and Ali, to name just two, couldn't cope with the bowlers. What a disappointment for everyone.
I have always maintained that you should never make your best batsman/bowler captain.
Its like in business you never make your best salesman manager. Reward him/her with pay rises yes but heap responsibility on them and your sales will decline!!
Prediction for Sunday....Brady gets sacked 4 times. He's gettin' a visit from Sacksonville!!
"It took me a while to figure this out too, and I still don't really get it. Does this mean there are actually people outside the USA who understand and like American Football?"
You can blame some of the games dragging on due to the timeouts often needed for television and they way they handle penalties (challenges to calls). Sports has become such a big money event it has hurt the game itself. I cannot see why so many people get so worked up over games - a worldwide statement.
Now that the medical industry has revealed the brain damage due to repeated hits (of course, we knew that for boxing) I suspect this will eventually change the nature of a contact sport. It is funny there are more sports for physical activities rather than mental ones.
It didn't happen.... ANYBODY but the pats now
Ernie,
It looks like your "ANYBODY" but the Pats will be the EAGLES!
Here is a city worker greasing street poles to prevent the rowdy fans from climbing them.
AH WELL!!!
It was not meant to be. But they done great to get there.
Who would have thought so at the start of the season.
We were to get both Championship games on the Sky Sports Mix tv channel. Guess what?
The (expletive deleted) changed their minds and didn't show the Vikings v Eagles game.
The dirty rotten scoundrels!!!!!
Hopefully I'll see the short highlights tomorrow night. (I've avoided the result so far)
Ian, I think the game went quite well with the Vikings getting two tumps in the first under and managing to get a cradge with a good nurdle finish in the second period of the first over.
The Eagles responded with a wonderfully executed birdie in the third and managed a full spond in response to the Vikings having brought on an extra longboat and two bloodaxes.
The final result after a tense fifth quarter was an early declaration of intent, with the final score of three gleedles to five . The referees in view of VAR declaring an early finish, as the case of Newcastle Brown in the dressing room was getting warm.
The spectators were actually on the pitch at the interval playing a game of toss across, which proved more exciting than the real game.
Hope this does not enjoy your watching the match later.
Now THAT would be worth watching...if someone could translate your Queen's English to me lol
BOB
I couldn't wait so watched the highlights on youtube. It would appear the Eagles Defence was terrific.
Sheepshanks:- I didn't know you were a relative or pupil of Professor Stanley Unwin.
Belter a what gracious goodness! was that speil fandabidozy and terrific, fantastic, majestic your. Boab Ma Help! Crivvens! Jings!
Ying Tong Yiddle I Po! I'm walking backwards for Christmas across the Irish Sea!
Professor Stanley Unwin, now there is a blast from the past, very clever at speaking words backwards.
No, I just grew up (my wife doubts that statement) with British Radio shows in the 50's-70's. Goon shows, Round the Horne, Troutbridge, Kenneth Williams, Jimmy Edwards (Oh Ron, yes Eff) and the whole looney set, No wonder I never made it as prime minister.
Yo Vince,
Go Eagles!
AAAAHHHHH Memories.......Tony Hancock in Hancocks Half Hour.
Jimmie Clitheroe in the Clitheroe Kid
The Navy Lark with Jon Pertwee
I'm Sorry I'll Read That Again
Morecambe and Wise, Harry Worth, Dick Emery, Eric Sykes and from America Hiram Holliday, Bob Hope.
Dick Barton, Flash Gordon, Herges Adventures of Tin Tin.
Now most of the so called comedians just shout and swear.
Sorry I just got carried away.
"Sorry I just got carried away"
I have not watched a Super Bowl in many years. As said earlier, the game just gets too long due to commercials, reviews, half time show, etc.
As far as the Superbowl is concerned I normally record it and watch it the following morning. (It normally finishes around 3am over here).
Thank goodness for the fast forward button on the remote.
Sheepshanks:- To quote the lyrics of the singer Napoleon XIV:-
They're coming to take me away Ha Ha
They're coming to take me away Ho Ho
To the Funny Farm
Where life is beautiful all the time
And I'll be happy to see those nice young men in their clean white coats
They're coming to take me away!!
In case anyone is wondering what these funny Brits are on about, here is the link to the song. 1966 was the year.

Here is the flip side to that song:
Thank you Michael.
I was in elementary school when that song came out. We absolutely drove the teachers nuts by "singing" that song and jumping about.
Thank you Micheal.
The song was great.
However an even better one that I loved around that time was "Hello Mudda, Hello Fadda" I think by Alan Sherman.
Ian, were you with the four Jacksonville players that got arrested in a London strip club last night?
Ian, were you with the four Jacksonville players that got arrested in a London strip club last night?
Four players with an unpaid bar bill of £50,000 it was reported out here. That's an awful lot of booze or awfully expensive drinks.
Probably lots of drinks for their entourage and plenty of tableside entertainment.
OOOHHH!........GGOOSHHH!.......Where am I!!......What day is it?
Whatever took place?
London? Last Night?
I havnae been there since 2015!!.....(Aye 20:15 last night. )
IT WISNAE ME OFFICER!!......HONEST!!
Ernie:- What did you think of Game 3, the Dodgers against the Red Sox?
18 Innings!!! Thank goodness I watched the Highlights on You Tube last night and didn't have to watch it "Live".
I'll watch game 4 tonight so please don't give the result away.
Hey Ian, my wife and I were eating dinner out and the game was on and we watched it for an hour or so and went to bed. I was shocked when I woke up and saw the highlights. I kind of lost interest after the Braves were eliminated.
I saw on TV that there are quite a few loyal Jags fans in Britain. We were cracking up because they even know to say "Duuuuuuval!!". From their performance today they shouldn't have hit the London club scene so hard.
"Where are all the Giants fans"
"From their performance today they shouldn't have hit the London club scene so hard. "
Unfortunately we did not get the game on TV here. It was only shown on Sky Sports a pay for channel. (Yes I am the epitomy of the mean Scotsman!!)
There will be very short Highlights tomorrow night.
We will get both Championship Games though,
GO! JAGS! GO!!!!
