Think it is about time to re-open the Diner this year.

Saw this and thought of some of our car mechanic members...

Randy, when I saw it I thought of you and Charlie. Figured it might be worth a chuckle from you all.

Country Fried Steak? Country Friday Steak?

"Complements of Dirty Gurty's Diner, located in beautiful Downtown Shrub Oak , only served on Fridays Rolling On The Floor Laughing"

Well, since NY is north of the Mason-Dixon line, I suppose they can call it what they want, but that sure looks like CHICKEN Fried Steak, a staple of Southern haute cuisine.

Exactly my point. Chicken fried steak originated in Lamesa, Texas.

"Please tell me that it is not parsley sauce on a beefburger with mashed potato?"

Who the heck knows what those Yanks are doing with Southern Cooking! If perchance they did it correctly, it should be black pepper in the milk gravy, but sometimes it gets a bit spicier, or brown gravy is used (not as good as with the peppered milk gravy).

"only served on Fridays"

You can get it any day of the week down here. Feast your eyes on this!

In Canada, when said Southern delicacy made its way here, the term "Chicken Fried Steak" came along with it. I've never heard it referred to as 'country fried' before.

Of course, with my Veneto-Italian roots, I just look at it as a bastardized schnitzel with a light roux on top.Confused

When I was in England a few years ago, the pub's daily drink special was "Long Island Beach Ice Tea". I had to explain to them that there was no such place as Long Island Beach and the drink was simply a "Long Island Ice Tea".

Hey Tom! Hope you're not freezing up there friend. Anh, Long Island iced teas. When you get one made right they're phenomenal. Made wrong, yuck! You can go to 5 different places and get 5 totally different drinks. No two places seem to make it the same way.

re: SOR Diner 2018

I have to concur with Ernie's observations on the Long Island Iced Tea (or as my wife affectionately refers to it, the LIT, since they will get you lit rather quickly). It was the gateway to more sophisticated cocktails. I was quite fond of them in the 1980s, but quickly found you better back your favourite bars and hope the bartender didn't leave (or the bar had a foolproof recipe). Used to frequent Greenjeans in Winnipeg, which had one of the better formulations - it was almost exactly like drinking an iced tea. Get a bad one, though - why would you want to drink another after that. Nowadays, it's a Manhattan or Sidecar for me, then a little snooze afterwards.

My favorite Long Island Ice Tea story after the British pub one...

Back when my sister turned of age (drinking age was 18 in NJ in our era) she wanted to know what drink to order. I remember someone giving me a taste of one LIIT and said it tasted like ice tea, so I told her to order that.

She and her friend went out that evening. I was home in bed when she got home. I heard the car drop her off, but I never heard the front door. So I investigated and found her passed out on the front steps! Laughing

My memorable drink is the Mai Tai. We had these in Hawaii on our Honeymoon including places like the Royal Hawaiian. Like other drinks, the mixture depends on the bar. I do not like the ones with Grenadine.

A balmy -9 C (16 F) today in Central Ontario. No stamping today - off to Peterborough to do some deep diving into used record bins (my other hobby) with my 'work wife', followed (likely) by a round of Belgian beers with my eldest son. Just need to dress warm, since the shop we frequent is erratically heated. Should be fun, though.

Music is another of my hobbies. I get just as excited by going to a used record store as I do attending a stamp show. I'm always on the look out for Blues, Big band, Swing and County Music. I have a Blues show on Wednesday evenings 10-1 "blues in the Night" on WRDV 89.3 FM in the Philadelphia area. We stream 24 hours a day on http://wrdv.org/ I was a fill in guy for the day time format of Big Band & Swing and finally got a day time show on Friday morning 8-12, Friday Morning Bandstand.

Vince:

In terms of music, not so good. Wasn't helped by the fact that the shop we went too suffered a New Years Day flood (burst pipe) which wiped out a good chunk of their stock. There were some definite gems to be had (some vintage Sam Cooke, Albert King and Sam and Dave spring to mind), but they were (a bit) overpriced. Since vinyl has become trendy, the prices on even obscure material has jumped quite dramatically the past few years. Had my eye on a David Bowie 'Sound+Vision' 6 LP box set, but the $120 price tag (though actually reasonable - the set was near pristine) was a bit more than I was willing to spend on the day. I did walk away with a number of comedy finds though -

-A Rich Little album from 1962 recorded live at "the Coachman Lounge of the Butler Motel. Ottawa"
(This was before he broke in the U.S.)
-A collection of Flanders and Swann ditties released by the BBC that never made it onto their released albums
-A Gerard Hoffnung recording including his Oxford Union Speech (usually referred to as 'The Bricklayer'.

The real find was (Ian/Brechinite will appreciate this) a copy of the Goon Show "Goon Again" autographed by none other than Harry Secombe.

$33.90 well spent (for all four) ... and my son was able to pop across the street to join us for beer as well. Still have't managed to wash all the dust off my hands, though ...Big Grin

It's interesting to live in the western suburbs of Philadelphia. The frenzy that built up to the Superbowl was amazing. My wife and I avoided our favorite pub during all the games! We generally don't follow football, but we watched the game on Sunday. As the game concluded, it sounded like July 4th outside. Fireworks in the air, people yelling in the streets.

Traveling to work on the Pennsylvania Turnpike, many to most of the ads on the electronic billboards mentioned the Eagles, and still does! My chuckle of the week was a tractor trailer that some fan had lettered the back door in the dirt... "FLY EAGELS FLY"

My wife was at work locally (I work in NJ) yesterday, and went to a doctors appointment. Both were considering calling it a holiday. The doctor's office was cancelling Thursday appointments. The schools are all closed.

We will avoid Philadelphia at all costs!

20 Feb 2018
06:50:54pm
re: SOR Diner 2018

Mike, I finally checked out this thread and the first picture definitely looks like it's referring to me. The remote control on my hospital bed has been acting up and not working at times. When it's stuck in the upright position it makes getting a good nights sleep impossible. Unfortunately my bed does not have as much floor clearance as the one in the picture so crawling underneath it is impossible. Since I finally got it in the flat position I decided that I should leave it there. Since then I developed a nasty bed sore that doesn't want to heal. I guess I need to get my floor jack out of storage (easier said then done) so I can attempt to fix it and have other options in my sleeping positions.

Bobgggg, I don't recall my time in Shrub Oak ever finding Country Friday Steak on the menu.
Perhaps it was a typo you encountered?

Mike, The last time I was Eastern N.C. (before you moved there) I ran across a sign for a diner (crab shack actually) and I wondered if you had ever eaten there. I didn't stop to eat as the sign rather put me off but thought it might be your kind of place. The sign read: Get your crabs at dirty dicks! I can't remember exactly where it it was as I was just following the coast down to the keys checking out the sites and it was one of the most memorable ones.

Hi Mitch. Yes, I did have you in mind as well as Charlie and Randy when I posted that picture. Thought it was 'cute' enough to share. Sorry to hear about the bed sore. During my last hospital stay, my bed had an air cushion which inflated and deflated at different times to help prevent bed sores. You might want to check with your doc about that and see if it might be of help.

Going to be around 80F this afternoon down here in NC. Looks like our cold winter weather is over and spring has arrived. Time to get the riding mower running and mulching up the last piles of winter leaves. And get some new approval books made up and posted.

Dialysis, damned if you do...dead if you don't

re: SOR Diner 2018

I have become more and more concerned about the patient care at my dialysis center. Frankly, it is run like a medical sweat shop with extraordinary employee turn rates (23%), low morale, and an unusual emphasis on production (read as ‘treat them and street them’). I am able to compare and contrast things like patient to healthcare provider ratios to that of the infusion center I also go to frequently (which is quite similar in terms of patient care). My wife is convinced that the dialysis care will kill me before the cancer does! LOL But the statistics support her position. Medical mistakes are the 3rd leading cause of adult death in this country. Since I have over 200 medical procedures per year, even if only 1% of the time a mistake is made it means my life is in danger twice a year.

So I asked my local dialysis center to speak to their management team a few weeks ago and they were impressed with my presentation and suggestions for continuing improvements. They asked if I would be willing to give a 45 minute presentation at their regional meeting and I did that last week. I am hoping that I can make a difference in patient care and stick up for many of these folks who, for various reason(s), are not able to speak for themselves. Changing a $11 BILLION company is not easy, nor did I every expect to be in this position, but early signs seem positive that they are willing to give me some influence.

Sunday morning was a rough day for our local police department. A body was found lying on the interstate. One officer who was directing traffic was run over by a drunk driver (yes, I said Sunday morning). A short time later, the two officers investigating the collision involving the officer who was run over were struck by lightning. All three officers are expected to recover fully.

Dialysis, damned if you do...dead if you don't

re: SOR Diner 2018

Al,
You are 100% correct. They use ‘dialysis technicians’ which are paid $10-$11 per hour and hired off the street with no medical background. The patients put our lives into the hands of the technicians three times per week; one mistake and we die. It is an incredibly stressful and difficult job, dialysis lasts 4-5 hours so they have to come into work at 4AM. Obviously there are no holidays, we need dialysis year round.

Even scarier, they allow technicians to draw and push IV medications. You would think that you would need a RN or other medical licensed person to admin meds but they have these $10 per hour newbies administering IV medications. (its legal, I looked it up.) I had one new tech stand in front of me 2 months ago with a syringe of Heparin in her hand and ask me, “do I put this in before or after I do the flush?’ (Does it make sense to anyone here to inject a med and then flush it back out?) Not exactly a confidence builder. Last October, I had foolishly dozed off in the chair. The fellow sitting next to me, who I try to look out for and cannot really look out for himself, had a flu shot mistakenly injected directly into his IV instead of his arm. As EMS carted him off to the hospital I sat there feeling horrible that I let it happen.

There are currently over 450,000 people on dialysis in the US, the average life expectancy for a dialysis patient is less than 15 months, 75% of all dialysis business is handed to one of two large companies. US taxpayers cover the costs of all dialysis patients; this totals 1% of the entire national budget last year. (For comparison, the Dept of Education budget was 2%.)

So there I am, sitting in a room of executives asking me how they can improve. How about we start with Terminix being hired so that we do not have cockroaches running across us during treatment? Or how about you use some of that $800 million in profit you made last year and invest in your employees? They tried to tell me that their 23% employee turnover rate was not ‘that bad’. I politely told them they should be targeting no higher than 7%. Then they told me that they had a difficult time finding new hires. I told them that I fully understood, it must be hard to hire good employees at $10 hour when the fast food restaurants and Walmart are starting at $13-$15 per hour.

I really railed on them for their lack of verification in the administration of meds; meds are given without any check and balances. Patents are not asked their name or date of birth, no second set of eyes are used to verify the med is correct. They simply walk up and give it to you without saying a word or checking anything. Twice in the last year I have stopped them from giving me a med that is clearly on my chart should not be given to me. I am fortunate enough to be very proactive in my care, I get there early and check the computer to make sure that my orders are correct, I check the every blood draw tube, I check every med, I check that they have the machine setup correctly. I help them in any way I can including wheeling the other patients in and helping them get into their chairs. They do not allow friends and family on the floor so we have to look out for each other.

But I am not some selfless nice guy who likes working for free, I am doing it because I am scared to death. The 40 other patients in the room, most of whom I have known for several years, watched what I was doing and asked me for help. I have evolved into a patent advocate as much for self-preservation as compassion. They now want to hire me but I have obvious reservations.

Dialysis, damned if you do...dead if you don't

08:13:08pm
re: SOR Diner 2018

Hi Chris,
I heard that that make about $100 per Medicare patient per treatment in NC and about $165 for insurance patients. But these numbers do not communicate the large number of additional profit centers that DaVita runs. For example, there is what is called the ‘Liquid Gold’ profit center. Here is how it works…

DaVita runs blood labs on each patient every week; they send all the blood to their own labs in Florida. (In my opinion this is a conflict of interest, as a patient I would much rather it go to an independent lab.) Of course they charge for and make good money on each lab they run (that’s 175,000 to 200,000 blood tests per week). $$$ When the labs come back, DaVita automatically administers meds based upon the lab results as per Medicare and Insurance guidelines. Currently, if a patients hemoglobin drops below 11.0 they administer Epogen. Epogen is an cellular growth agent which boosts red blood cells to avoid anemia. It is billed at $600 per dose.

Now the interesting part; I have labs done by both by DaVita and by my infusion center about 18 hours apart and both are full metabolic panels. I have charted my hemoglobin levels from both lab tests over the last 12 months. Now your hemoglobin level can vary a bit over 24 hours but doctors tell me it should never be more than 0.1. Funny trend, the DaVita labs have consistently been 0.3 - 0.4 lower on every single test over 52 weeks. Never higher, never the same, always lower. A cynic obviously would say that someone at DaVita has their thumb on the hemoglobin scale here; that they are selling lots of Epogen and that is why they call ‘Liquid Gold’.

But wait, it gets better. I posted that twice I had been administered an IV med by mistake; both times it was Epogen. I had previously discussed with my nephrologist that Epogen is an indiscriminate cellular growth agent; in other words it fertilizes cancer cells as well as red blood cells. No thanks, I would rather deal with anemia than deal with it growing my Stage 4 cancer cells. So the orders in the system for me say to not administer Epogen until my hemoglobin drops below 9.5. So when I caught them (twice) getting ready to incorrectly administer Epogen they had to throw the $600 dose into the garbage. (They can’t draw meds and then put them back into inventory.) Guess what? It still showed on up my Medicare bill and they got paid; but this is not unusual for DaVita. A doctor and nurse in Denver reported them for Medicare fraud and DaVita promptly fired them both. Bad move with the Fed whistle blower laws. DaVita paid out over $400 million to settle that case. If you add up all the settlements they have made over the last 10-15 years, it comes very close to a billion dollars.

All DaVita employees get a pretty good healthcare plan. Well, if you count that the plan requires that all employees MUST buy all their meds through the “DaVita Rx” service. The cost of the meds that is being billed through the employee DaVita Rx service is typically many times higher than the exact same med through the local pharmacies. $$$ And of course DaVita services all the patients with their Rx service. $$$ And then there is the weekly doctor visits billings… take my word for it, DaVita has figured out how to milk this cow of every penny.

I realize that I am comparing a competitive model (infusion center) vs. a socialized medicine model (dialysis center). DaVita and Fresenius have neatly split the dialysis market into non-competitive segments, only in the very largest metro areas do they compete. In the vast majority of location we do not have any choice of providers. This is hurting the quality of patient care and allows them to pay employees much less.

Once a tech mistakenly programmed my machine and it took three time the amount of fluid from me than it should have. The result was that my blood pressure dropped to 60/30. Not fun. I passed out and nearly stroked out. I watch as people hit the floor at least once a week due to their blood pressure dropping. I once had to intercede when a tech walked away and a little old lady start bleeding out because tech didn’t pull the needles correctly at the end of the session. This is why my wife firmly believes that I will be killed by DaVita before I the cancer gets me. I am telling you, this place is a wrongful death law suit waiting to happen every month. But no worries, they will settle and just move on.

We hadn't had snow down here in 12 years! This winter, we have had snow three times! It was nice, especially so because by 11:00 AM each day afterwards the snow had melted away.

Ice storms, however, are a different animal and can last several days. They are very dangerous, so I just stay indoors when those happen and work on my stamps and trains (of which I got a new addition today).

For great four seasons, come to the beautiful mountains of Western North Carolina! A few nice winter storms each year around Christmas but winter only lasts 3 months. Fall colors are incredible. Spring is fantastic. And summer only sees 1-2 days a year above 90F, nights are often around 50F. Perfect!

Yesterday managed to dig a path through before the discharge chute broke. Then I got stuck in a snowdrift on the gravel road on my way to getting it welded.
Truck came up behind and got stuck as well and we both got pulled out by local farmer with his tractor. He then cleared the road with his blade.
Got into town and got the weld done and all put back together and working ok.
Municipality snow plough came along today and cleared the road.
Spent today sorting more Machins.

West of Philly the storm kinda fizzled! We were prepared with food and beer. I got new gas for the snow blower and noticed that everyone else at the gas station was doing the same. I knew my office was closed the evening before, so I could work from home.

And then we didn't get a lot of snow! I didn't have to break out the snow blower, and snow melted off the sidewalks and street. I did have to clear off the cars, but that's about it.

It is different closer to the coast. Several of my wife's siblings were without power last night. A lot more snow with winds that took trees and limbs down. My company in NJ sent out an email blast last evening that they were opening at 10am this morning, but advised the roads could be snow covered and to use judgement whether to come in or work from home.

The fellow I work closest with had no power yesterday so he was in our meetings via his cell phone. He hasn't been online at all today and didn't respond to my early morning query about coming in, so I stayed home. I can get more work done here anyway!

Almost everything is shut down for the day.

Good thing its a weekend - no one has to try to go to work in this stuff.

Haven't lost power as yet, but there is MAJOR ice hanging on all lines.

We can hear the sleet pelting numerous windows as the wind continues

Today's adventure... I returned home from my second week on business in Syracuse to hear water flow.. never a good sound! I found that a saddle valve that some idiot had connected a humidifier to my heating system had failed and was allowing flow in to the long ago disconnected humidifier. The little condensate pump was doing a stellar job, but there was a leak in the humidifier itself that was dripping on the floor. No harm, no foul, just the concrete floor in the furnace room. So I made a trip to the local Lowes store and bought a replacement saddle valve, and installed the new one in the old one's location. Although I will never use said valve, this one isn't leaking and I wasn't about to be sweating pipe to otherwise replace the pipe where the valve had punctured it.

This past weekend I attended the spring model railroad show in New Braunfels, Texas. It is always a great train show. This time, I had the best sales that I ever had at any show.

Of course, on Monday my computer went down. I took it to the shop, and on the way home, my car broke down. My computer is fixed (two memory sticks failed), but I'm still waiting to find out what's wrong with my car. Good thing I have a spare car.

How do one's belongings know when you get some extra money?

Hi guys,

As I have said many times and hopefully will one day not have to say... I'm a newbie.

So with that being said...

What is the "SOR Diner" exactly?

Is it like a magic diner that magically appears each year (hence the year 2018) where everyone can (virtually) come in, sit down and shoot the breeze?

Is there a secret handshake? Gang signs? Colors of any kind that should be worn? Winking

Imagine your local friendly diner. Local folks come in, order a meal and chat with their neighbors about the goings on. Sometimes they simply make observations about life, vent a little regarding the little inconveniences of life and have a little fun.

Hey Everyone!

What's everyone doing this weekend?

Priority one is family. My sons are at the end of their high school career so I try to "see" them as much as I can before college, girls, marriage, whatever, "hits".

But then, I'm going to spend (hopefully) some time going through some recent EBay acquisitions of FDCs, Covers and Postcards. Should be very cool!

Sleeping in on Saturday is a MUST! It's my only good day to sleep in! Happy

Definitely some seeds going into the ground today - spinach, mesclun greens, lettuce, peas. Was 34F at 6AM here. Check the swarm traps for activity, gotta grub out the brooder room in the barn for new chicks coming in a couple of weeks...

Really getting excited about the Trip West (2 weeks, starting in a week) with son Charlie (age 23). He is KICKING it in his business, auto restoration, specializing in custom metal fabrication and vintage Dodge trucks. Just sold a 1949 Power Wagon for $45K. We're taking a 30-foot trailer and also loading a semi-trailer with sheet metal to drag back to the East as raw material. Probably score me a 1965 Hemi top end for CHEAP in Azirona for my Coronet drag car...

My family and I used to have too many chickens to count and 30 head of goat on our hobby farm. I am very familiar with brooders and even "candling" eggs.

Good times, but now we live in town (very small rural town!) and I don't miss those day, although they were VERY fun at the time.

My weekend looks like being quite busy. No chance of a lie in here - the dog has to be walked first thing, and later our little grandson Harry - he's 3 - is coming for the day - we look after him every Friday. Then, after a dentist check up this morning, with Harry's help I'll aim to get my climbing beans planted in the seed tray - when they've germinated, I'll plant them out on the allotment at end of May. There's work to be done on the allotment too - spreading the rest of the manure and getting everything ready for the great planting once the possibility of frost is gone. At some point this weekend I must get up the ladder and cut the ivy back from the gutters and windows on one side of the house - hate that job! And there's always junk to be cleared out of the garage.

This evening we're meeting up with a few friends for a drink or two, and tomorrow is my wife's concert evening - she sings in the local choral society which puts on concerts twice or there times a year. I'm enrolled as a Friend, which means I pay some money every year and get a reserved seat at the front. Next weekend we're off to Norfolk for a family party. It's not all work!

Just spent the whole morning trying to sort "She who must be obeyed"'s Play Station 4.

She got it last week and switched it off too soon, result was it demanded a reinstallation of software.

What a palaver to go through, downloading onto a USB stick and then the ***** machine wouldn't accept it!! (several attempts all ended in failure). It is a most complex and precise system to reinstall or update.

Got on to Sony and they were as much use as a chocolate teapot.

Its supposed to be a "Game" playing machine not an all singing and dancing solution to everything under the sun.

Its like todays mobile phones, seldom used for what they are called, most mobiles are seldom used for actually speaking to people, they are mostly used for texts, emails and twitter/facebook.

Any way that's my rant for the day.

To quote Tony Blairs' anthem "Things Can Only Get Better".

Have a nice day everyone!!!!

Hi all,

Going South for work next week.

But if I gotta go, I'd rather go South or Southwest.

Heading to Tennessee.

Should be fine, it's a trip I make about 3x a year for work.

This weekend, I'll be packing up my "mobile stamp collecting" supplies, so I have something to do in the hotel, other than work out and watch the weather channel.

Because even though the hotel has cable, there really is nothing on most times! Winking

I used to travel quite often for work. I hear what you're saying about needing to bring something to do in the hotel room. I, too, watched The Weather Channel to pass the time. Other than that, it seemed that every time I was traveling the only other thing on was the same episode from The Sopranos. Oh well.

LOL! Funny you say that about the Sopranos.

I'm thinking of watching that. I've never seen it. It's gangsters, right? I heard it was good!

Yeah, I'm bringing a bunch of stamp stuff to fiddle with in the hotel room, plus I'm a pretty avid weight lifter, so I'll probably work out a bunch too.

But to be truthful, I'm one of those guys that actually likes the weather channel! LOL!

Guess the chocolate did not stay liquid for long and now they could sell it as "road kill brittle".
Garden has now had two workings with the tiller and will get the third and final run today. Then it will need to be raked a bit more level before seeding and planting.
Am slowly clearing all the house contents into a 40 foot container, ready for the builders to come in and rip out walls and rewire, insulate etc. Will be off to Blighty for a month (at least) to visit relatives and family and hopefully come back to a nicer home.
Amazing how much junk has accumulated over the years so charity shop and rubbish dump are getting a number of visits.

Going through the catalogue picking out the possible purchases.

Anybody fancy 40 albums of 400 phonecards in each album (16000) both new and used?

I'll also be picking up a couple of lots from the last auction and will be leaving some lots for the next one. (Its OK, SOR members had the opportunity to purchase them but nobody bid so off they go elsewhere.) If I didn't do that then "She who must be obeyed" would say "What more stamps? Haven't you got enough already?" but look Light of my Life I'm putting these into an Auction I'll say. (Hopefully she'll believe i'm reducing the "collection")).

Had a good night at the auction last night, finally picked up the Biafra set that was overprinted on the Nigeria Animals. I probably paid too much but they don't come up very often.

Bought a mixed box and we'll see whats in it later today. There is nothing like a good rummage. I do know that there is a couple of earlyish GB Phosphor sets on First Day Covers and a lot of Malta mint never hinged.

Heading outside to enjoy the sunshine.

PS The phonecards went for £550.00

Would have been easier if everything was packed into boxes or totes, could have stacked better. There are around a thousand books which have been put in one of the outbuildings along with items like heaters.
Sadly the stamps are in the container and I'm hoping the heat and humidity will not affect them too badly.
Will be off to Blighty to visit rellies in June/July whilst contractors are working (hopefully), anticipating around 7 to 8 weeks work.

Man, I remember back when Diana and Charles got married. My wife got up early and watched the whole thing. At least we live in modern times... she saved the broadcast and watched it when she wanted to get up!

Rainy weekend, the end to a rainy week here in Eastern Pennsylvania. Blew the morning on the computer, while the wife watched the wedding.

I have some bills to pay and other paperwork, then I might just work on a model car for a while. Haven't done that in a long while!

The wedding was playing in a loop on BBC America channel. The weather was great. Now, we await the flood of stamps. One usually associates a cemetery as a solemn place but realize there are a lot of royalty buried in that church.

Of course, with my Veneto-Italian roots, I just look at it as a bastardized schnitzel with a light roux on top.Confused

re: SOR Diner 2018

We will avoid Philadelphia at all costs!

re: SOR Diner 2018

All three officers are expected to recover fully.

re: SOR Diner 2018

Al,
You are 100% correct.

They now want to hire me but I have obvious reservations.

re: SOR Diner 2018

Hi Chris,
I heard that that make about $100 per Medicare patient per treatment in NC and about $165 for insurance patients.

We have an ice storm going on here in central Michigan....been hitting us since Saturday.

Almost everything is shut down for the day.

Good thing its a weekend - no one has to try to go to work in this stuff.

Haven't lost power as yet, but there is MAJOR ice hanging on all lines.

We can hear the sleet pelting numerous windows as the wind continues
to swirl from one side of the house to the other.

Any other SOR members in the area experiencing this?

Listened to sleet and ice hitting our windows all day yesterday but only have an ice of ice on the deck and roof this morning. The roof heater coils are working well. Still snowing like mad here in eastern Iowa. Supposed to get up to 3 inches - not that much but the wildlife and spring flowers don't like it.

On the plus side, it is excellent weather for stamp activities!

re: SOR Diner 2018

It was eighty something degrees here in the PA / NJ area yesterday. Warm and wonderful.

Versus, today it's in the low 50s, drizzling and bitter!

Hi Paul,

My family and I used to have too many chickens to count and 30 head of goat on our hobby farm. I am very familiar with brooders and even "candling" eggs.

Good times, but now we live in town (very small rural town!) and I don't miss those day, although they were VERY fun at the time.

re: SOR Diner 2018

I have been away on business the past 5 out of 6 weeks, travel out on Sunday so you get one weekend day per week. Add in that I'm in charge of the largest model car show in the country, that was last Saturday, so there was always very busy tasks to accomplish on those Saturdays.

Oh well.

Getting ready for attending an Auction in Edinburgh on Monday night.

PS The phonecards went for £550.00

re: SOR Diner 2018

This weekend will be a continuation of the past two weeks. Getting everything out of the house and into a forty foot container ready for the builders to come in and rip the home apart.

No stamping for me for a while.

@Brechinite,

That sounds great! Being from the US, I have never seen any of the events you've mentioned but would LOVE to! Especially Cricket, I have always been fascinated by this sport!

And a Royal Wedding, pretty cool! Happy

re: SOR Diner 2018

Jings!.....Crivvens!.....Help Ma Boab!

Ernie a Royalist?

See what you are all missing! Bet you now regret the War of Independence! Your Head of State would not be "The Donald" but Her Gracious Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

Hollywood likes to think of themselves as the American royalty at times.
