For the past 6 months or so we have been auctioning off the worldwide(no U.S.) collection of a woman who used to be very active in our club. Here is what i saw..with the exception of Russia, almost all areas prior to 1960 did very well. The post 1960 lots did not do nearly as well with collections from areas like Nevis going for less than 10 percent of catalog.

re: Club auction

most of the lots were sold either as country lots, or, if really huge, portions of country lots (6 different lots of Germany, for instance, each with CV of about $500 starting at $100 opening bid). Popular countries, like Germany, sold at around 10% in big lots; sometimes much more in small lots of singles or sets. Some of the stuff, like most non-Commonwealth Africa, went begging.

I don't think any winning bidders went home unsatisfied.
