i think he used the same font as did the Saturday Evening Post
Cole was one of those rare people who put his dream above everything..he was not money oriented,he just wanted to turn the old farm into a landing strip and work on and fly planes. He did not marry until much later in life when he had achieved much of what he wanted to do. He was a man in the old tradition.
Hi Everyone;
I like to collect very old books also Phil. They take me back to a time when there were lots of folks like Cole Palen, great men in greater times....
TuskenRaider
I do not do it on purpose..but it seems like the books are starting to cut into the stamps ! I just keep finding great books for a dollar or two . I have been borrowing John Burroughs An American Naturalist from the Red Hook Library..its not a book you can just scan through and yesterday i found a copy on Betterworld Books for 3.99 with free shipping. Thats better than the 21.95 the book store asks. Will the bookstores be the next to lose to the internet ?
Bob,
Here in my hometown, we have already lost our bookstore (new books) to the internet;
I spoke to the owner when the "Going Out Of Business" sign was first put in the
front window - the response was,
"We can't compete any longer with the likes of Amazon."
.....and now they are gone.
It is very sad, as I like to hold a book in my hands as I decide whether to
buy or not....
Its June in the Hudson valley and the wild roses on the sides of the road smell almost TOO Sweet ! The aerodrome opens up for shows June through October. Sadly Cole the man on the book cover is no longer with us. I picked the book up today at a yard sale for my Hudson Valley group of books.
