We went to San Francisco City Hall, and pledged before a judge, with my brother and her mother as our witnesses.
Then we lived it up, and went out to lunch.

Ah, this topic is means a lot to me since I am being kept alive by a machine and new drugs which were not available years ago.
So what was it like 100 years ago? Here are some facts about life in the US in 1918.
The average life expectancy for men was 47 years.
Fuel for cars was sold in drug stores only.
Only 14 percent of homes had a bathtub.
Only 8 percent of homes had a telephone.
The tallest structure in the world was the Eiffel Tower.
The average US wage in 1910 was 22 cents per hour.
The average US worker made between $200 & $400 per year.
More than 95 percent of all births took place at home.
Sugar cost four cents a pound. Eggs were fourteen cents a dozen. Coffee was fifteen cents a pound.
The population of Las Vegas, Nevada was only 30.
There was neither a Mother's Day nor a Father's Day.
Three out of every 10 adults could not read or write.
And keep in mind that the tradition is having weddings in the spring was originally because that was one of the two times per year that people would bathe! And that a brides bouquet was originally carried out of the 'necessity' of covering body odor!

" Seven hundred dollars for 90 dinners and unlimited open bar. "
i guess things are different with weddings today and people telling you what china place settings they require. Its 1966 and we were both 27..and making 9 thousand a year between us(for 7 months until she had to quit due to pregnancy) Jopies boss was in the local Knights of Columbus and we had the reception in their hall. Seven hundred dollars for 90 dinners and unlimited open bar. A fellow i knew at work was a good drummer...we got his three some to provide music for 30 dollars apiece and food and drink. It was wonderful !
