Oh I hate/love buying cars! Such an emotional roller coaster.

I no longer buy new ones, I prefer to buy low mile, late model cars for cash.

Ha, never played that game.

My newest vehicle, my daily driver, is a 1977 Dodge M880. And, I have never entertained the idea of going to a dealership. All my vehicles were built from the ground up, by me, and now, in partnership with my son.

Here's one of our current projects:

's a '65 Coronet 2 dr. sedan. Being built into an A990 clone. 800hp Hemi under the hood, stock 4-spd manual, 4.56 rear gears. We're aiming for 3000 lb curb weight. Should be good for low 10s.

Right now, we're stretching the rear wheel wells to fit the slicks. Next step is installation of the cage: Chrome-moly, 10-point.

It will be black.

Tom, you salivating yet?

re: The car trade in game

My proudest moment car shopping was when my wife wanted a mini-van because we had two very young children and getting them into and out of a Tahoe and a Jeep was difficult. I told her that I would go with her (you have to go 120 miles to find multiple dealers) under ONE condition: She had to look until she found TWO vehicles (of different makes) she REALLY liked first. (Easier to negotiate price if walking away is a viable option).

She looked at her first choice and LOVED it! Second choice, Nah. Third choice, really didn't like. So I asked if she had really looked at mini-vans from another common manufacturer and she hadn't, so I forced her to go (she was ready to make an offer on what she fell in love with hours ago). She liked the other van even more, and it was a better price, and she is still driving that van 8 years later. (I'm still driving the 2004 Tahoe we had before then).

Now she's talking about saving the Tahoe for our oldest son when he starts driving in 18 months. Looks like I'm getting a new car! (Or maybe her old mini-van). Anyone care to make a wager? Smart money is on mama getting new wheels!

We have had Toyota Camrys since 1986 and have never had a repair bill larger than $400 bucks...all respect to them...but they can be slow to add new features. The Legacy has all wheel drive and seats four adults in comfort.... i have a Frontier truck so we do not need a wagon. Never had a Subaru before but i never knew a Subaru owner that did not like their vehicle.

re: The car trade in game

I just returned a rental car (2018 Nissan Maxima). Used it for a vacation trip. It had so many safety sensors it became annoying. All the new autonomous safety features are more distracting that helpful. Also, the instrument cluster in the dash and console tend to be a bit distracting. Just entirely too much information crammed into a small space. The back up camera was helpful though.

Needless to say. I'll stick with my 1998 Camry with 300K miles. For me, it's much easier to drive.
