Especially as those that use All Caps may have some medical visual acuity problem!!
Solution in search of a problem?
"Especially as those that use All Caps may have some medical visual acuity problem!!"
My hand written notes and entries are all caps
i agree with ikey.
i'd suggest the moderators do a test-trial and issue a one week ban on michael posting for violating the new no-all-caps rule.
then assess if that changes the behaviour of members, whether grumpy-geezers or reprobate-rookies.
btw, how do people find the time to do all-caps anyway, when you have to constantly type shift-letter? seems to me that this process alone would be punishment enough...

mY cAPS lOCK kEY IS sTUCK!

Just wondering. What difference does it make? I know all caps is to represent anger or yelling, but if you know that what is being said is only in caps because that is the choice of the person that posted the message, then why is it anything to worry about?
.
Typeface designers, graphics designers, reading specialists, et al, agree that multi-line all-caps text is not easier to read.
The reason is simple: differentiating letters is easier when some of the letters have little bits sticking out of them, and harder when they are all the same height.
So if you really want to pity the poor-sighted, stay away from all caps.
I visit SOR using the {Last 30 By Time} and, on the visit that provoked the OP, there were two multi-line all-caps posts, one of which was:
SOUTH AFRICA YEAR PACKS 1984-1989. (STAMPS CANCELLED
BY P.O.) ALL FOR US$4.00
Yes, it is shouty & violent & self-important, but - in a list of thread titles - it is also a chore to read.
Cheers,

It looks like we need a Strunk and White "Elements of Style" for the internet. It must be out there somewhere.
Geoff
I think this means all is well!
Think about it. If you watch the local news and all they have to report is some trivial BS, you can safely assume all is well in your corner of the world.
Similarly, I assume all is well at SOR (oops! sor).
"Especially as those that use All Caps may have some medical visual acuity problem!!"
"Q/ Can we find one person who says that they need to post in ALL CAPS because, otherwise, they would not be able to read their own post?
"
Why do you think your keyboard is in Capital Letters?
Would you rather it had b or d, p or q or g?
It is easier for some of those people that suffer from some forms of dyslexia to have it in Capitals!!!!!
"Q/ Does the Large Print section of your library include books printed in ALL CAPS?"
Why be so fussy about caps? As long as the message by the sender is in good faith, positive and helpful, I can always overlook it. As another member has already pointed out, visual impairment my be a reason why as well (?)

I do agree that ALL CAPS is yelling, and annoying when overdone, but complaining about it is bitching.
I try to avoid yelling and bitching as much as possible, especially away from work!
Lars
Will see your caps and raise you a M*A*S*H.
" .... mY cAPS lOCK kEY IS sTUCK! ...."
My all caps key is stuck as well, stuck in a
junk drawer along with the"ALL CAPS' from
the previous two or three keyboards, all pried
off, carefully, with a small handy screwdriver.
Problem solved.
In the unlikely event I should need such an
annoying feature, the eraser end of a yellow
pencil works just fine.
A blue or green pencil may also work, but I
never had the nerve to try them out.
on the other hand...
i find people who spell their names all in lower-case to be equally (or perhaps more) annoying...like canadian singer "kd lang" or lawyer "barbara findlay" - and american poet "ee cummings" or author/activist "bell hooks".
If CAPS = SHOUTING, then does lowercase = whispering? I don't think so (based on some of the self-centred explanations i've read). my fellow queen's grad, barbara findlay's site is classic: nothing about what she's done for other people - it's all me, me, me...my accomplishments, awards and recognitions... (and btw, she spells "me" as ... "Me" - huh?)
http://www.barbarafindlay.com/about-me.html
so, i feel your pain and understand your rant ikey.
let's just hope nobody decides a great new aggravating personal conceit will be to spell their names backwards or in mixed case and vehemently expect everyone to honour their personal preference.
cheers,
NeVaMeL

" ...That, I assure you, is far worse than just a thread title..."
Just guessing, but probably in more than one way.
I fondly recall postings here by our friend and fellow member Richaard -
he always posted in very large type
due to his very poor vision...
....and no one here minded.
Randy:
Correct! We didn't moind his large type as he needed it to see. He was a great participant on StampoRama.
And we all loved and miss Richaard.

.
ALL-CAPS THREAD TITLES are not merely more difficult to read; they are a visual blight on StampoRama.
Some choices:
- Vote with our fingers, and be content with studiously ignoring the offenders, or
- Draft the moderators to contact the posters, or
- Empower a volunteer to edit the thread titles, or
- Set the forum software to auto-reject titles that are more than X% (?25%) CAPS.
Yes, I realize that POTUS SCOTUS FDCs is a potentially legit thread title, but I am willing to err on the side of visual relaxation.
Cheers,
