Sure beats the heck out of the alternative, no?

I seem top be in the same boat. People come up to me & say we went to school together in the early 70's. I just stand there, dumbfounded trying to guess who it is I'm talking to. I have to ask!
I haven't gained much weight either, but I still have a full head of hair.
Think of it this way guys,
You made a very positive impression upon your friends/associates, and they remember that. Making a positive mark upon others is a wonderful gift. It is doing the work of your faith in the best possible way.

PhilB-clarification requested. Define 'old guy' and why would anyone challenge you?

A few years ago, I went with my wife to her high school reunion. The people there came up to me and shook my hand saying how long it was since they saw me, etc. Only problem was that the high school I went to is about 2000 miles away from my wife's high school!
Anyway, I just went with the flow. When they told me that they remembered me from band, sports and such, I told them I was in the band in sports, which was true. I did not tell them that I was from a different school. It was a riot. I laughed my butt off. My wife was running around frantically telling people that I never went to their school. She has another reunion coming up. I told her i can't wait to see my old school chums again. I don't thin she wants me to go this time!
Hi Dani, what is an old guy ? Someone who does not work outside in hot weather. By challenge i guess i meant i am treated with a bit more respect than when i was younger.
Yo- youngsters- the milk of human kindness ought not to be spilled!!!
PhilB-you are only as old as you permit yourself to be. From your posts, you maintain a youthful outlook.
Michael- an extended hand is always to be appreciated, and allowances made for the memory slips that later on we all become prey to.
I think we can all take careful note of BrightonPete- if I read him correctly, he is looking to make the best sense of a given situation, and seeks the positive in the evaluations made.
And who am I to be pontificating?? Actually, the only claim I can cite would be that I am closer to 100 than zero- and among the oldest of our members. That said, I do apologize for coming across heavy-handed and judgmental. (My girl taught me better- I have more work to do on my part.)

I’m in touch with a lot of people from high school. Within hours of joining Facebook I got a message that they had a group for my graduating class. As one of them said, “I now have more friends from high school than I had in high school !”
We’ve had a few in person reunions but banter every day on Facebook.
Most of my surviving classmates live within 8 miles of me and yet our paths never cross. We were a small class 5th grade through 12, about 2 dozen boys and girls. Three of the guys thought they were smarter than the average person and met tragic ends. I was stupid..but not crazy.
Dan, I certainly felt welcome at that reunion! It was all good fun.
" .... You made a very positive impression upon your friends/associates,

At the only HS reunion I ever went to, for the 30 year mark, one of the girls
said something about me not having changed much. I had no idea who she was,
and when I did hear her name could not recall her as a classmate. I was
polite, of course, and pretended I recalled whatever it was she was jabbering
about.
Later, much later, after a couple of drinks, the other ladies teased her mercilessly
about her having had crush on me "in the day."
Once home, I checked the school year book and discovered her photo, quite attractive and interestingly she had attended almost all the math and science classes with that I did.
If I had only known, but I was rather shy then. I admit to having been a nerd but never realized just how nerdy.
If we could only go back, knowing what we know now.
I went to the Hanaford supermarket to get a few Saturday morning things and this little old lady in front of me says "phil?" i said yes and she introduced herself as Dottie and said i used to date her cousin Gail! That was in 1958 ! Am i cursed that people who have changed so much over the years still recognize me ?
