Don't worry i guarantee people will still drink. In the 1920s Grandma sold coffee with grappa to the miners..what could it have cost 15 cents ?..it was enough to get Grandpa out of the mines and to Brooklyn.
thanks Ian, I have a gift card, which will be reduced by 25% in value, if I don't axe flask
Ok so I dont know alot about scotch whiskey or politics. We drink the hell out of Jameson ever now and again. Is that going up?
ENGLISH taxes on scotch whiskey, meant production increased. so did sales ...
alcohol taxes in nova scotia, paid for roads. bad roads, were result of low consumption rates.
I don't believe so; I think it's only Scotch whisky.
the liquor store mgr mentioned it when I stopped in to protect myself against the coming tariffs
With winter coming all British cashmere clothes will have the 25% tariff added as well.
So it will cost you more to keep warm on the outside as well as the inside!!

I believe the USO donuts were free!
Canadian Crown Royal tastes better than Jamieson, and it’s cheaper. Which is good. But I only drink when the evening news is disturbing.

Bob,
I like Crown Royal too! I think they're about the same price here.
Crown Royal is rye whiskey, Jamieson is Irish whiskey.
Just bought a bottle of Dewar's scotch whisky, 1.75L for $38.00, you think it will go up?
Whew! So glad to hear the Jameson’s is safe!
Since the topic seems to be alcoholic beverages and we all like old stuff...
In my local group for Keyport, NJ, someone posted that they took down the plaster and lathe ceiling in their very old house and found a burlap sack with a dozen bottles covered with straw.....
and a dozen bottles of gin emerged! They think these date back to prohibition in the 1920s. No mention if they tasted any or checked to see if it was still good! Still, a very interesting find.
Very cool. I would think Gilbey's might be interested in these.
This is kinda off-topic, but here goes:
When my father-in-law died, my wife received several items that had been in the family for decades. Among them was a framed, not-very-good charcoal drawing of my mother-in-law as a young woman. My wife didn't like the drawing at all, but the frame was in good condition, so I took it apart and found this print behind the drawing:
We believe that my father-in-law, who graduated from college in 1938, had been one of "Lucky Lindy's" millions of admirers. In searching for information about the print and learned that it had been made into a rather intricate jig-saw puzzle:
It's quite an amateur painting (although better than I could do!), but its familial provenance makes it a keeper!

Be careful about tasting any booze that dates from the prohibition era. Some of it was tainted with methanol following on some bizarre notion that this would inhibit people from drinking it. Denaturing formulas included some tasty stuff like kerosene, brucine (strychnine relative), gasoline, benzene, cadmium, iodine, zinc, mercury salts, formaldehyde, chloroform, camphor, and acetone.
It was announced today that the United States Government is going to put a 25% tariff on Malt Scotch Whisky later this month. (part of 17.6 billion dollar extra tariffs on goods from the EU ).
This is in response to the European Union's state aid to mostly Airbus aeroplanes making them cheaper than Boeings.
Therefore stock up on Malt Scotch Whisky NOW!!
In retaliation should I now add a 25% Tariff to all customers from the United States??
Of course not we are a bit more civilized!!
