i took a rare step off the property to get pellets for the water softener...Red Hook resembles one of the abandoned western mining towns ...not a car parked on the street either side of route 9, all we need are tumbleweeds. My mechanic usually has a string of 15 or 20 cars lined up every morning...now 2 or 3.

Beautiful downtown Exton Pennsylvania. On a normal day this lot would be packed!

I went to drop off a birthday present to my sister's house in Grand Rapids, Mi

for my niece;

when my wife and I pulled in the driveway and got out, my niece came out the door, saw us

and yelled back in the house,

"Hey, mom! Come look! Humans!"

re: Ghost town

Not everyone is seeing humans:

Jackals in Tel Aviv

Wild Boar in Haifa

When we lived in Oakland, night would come, and I would pack my then-3-y/o daughter in the car, arm her with a flashlight, and we would go "deer hunting" in the hills; they would come down for the gardens and the water during the dry season.

Cheers,

re: Ghost town

We back up to woods so we see deer in our yard on a daily basis. Normally we have a little herd of 6-8 deer, all female with some youngsters trailing along. The bucks only show up during rutting season.

Lately the daily group is down to two deer. I don't know why, but I'm hoping it's not because my neighbors have harvested them for food to survive the pandemic!

We usually do not see a lot of deer during the day at this time of the year. We know they are around at night as they nibble on our trees.

Perhaps they have just spread out because there is more friendly territory now that the roads are quieter, etc.

Back in the day, Andersen AFB MPs would shoot the deer who regularly congregated alongside the runways, as 'management' valued the B-52s on their way to Vietnam more than they valued the bucolic scene on the air field.

A young Guamanian, freshly returned from the States with his BA Biology in hand, somehow convinced them to let him on the base (itself not easy in those days) to observe the deer, and maybe find a better solution for all concerned.

His report: "Fix the broken water pipe that runs alongside the runway, and your deer will self-depart." (Okay, that last bit was a 2012 joke, and he was doing his job forty years earlier, but you get the point.)

Anyway, your neighbors might have started feeding the deer, which would also thin the herd.

Cheers,
