We were at whats left of the mall in Kingston N.Y. my wife was having her hair done and i was clocking some steps in the aisles.. there was a tiny one employee post office on one aisle and i asked if he had any international first class stamps. He did not have a one and he had one 20 stamp sheet of the purple heart stamp. I guess all the other folks must be shipping packages !

re: What is the post office using for postage?

many POs are carrying pretty close to the bare minimums.

Our beloved Red Hook Post Office seldom has anything higher than the international rate stamp ($1.20), so when I mailed a large PM flat rate box, $21.90, it was done with multiples of $1.20 (we could have done the $1 route too).

it's odd how they print all this stuff, but..................

re: What is the post office using for postage?

Each year when I do the 3000 postcard mailing for the model car show, I let my post office know about a week in advance that I need 2800 postcard stamps and 200 international. Otherwise I’m lucky if they have a roll of postcard rate or a 20 stamp sheet of international.

re: What is the post office using for postage?

I shipped a birthday present to my wife in a brown kraft
wrapped carton. The postage was around $20 but I asked for
a $26.30 stamp anyway. $26 !?!?! The girl looked at me
in shock and at first said they never had such a stamp.
"Okay,"said I, " I'll take three $7.75 stamps."
More puzzlement.
However after a bit of Blarney she showed me the stamp stock
book and sure enough there was the high value Express Mail
stamp.
Shortly after my wife received the package she called,
mostly to tell me she had the stamp cut out carefully and
would send it back soon. All my children and grandchildren
know what to do when a parcel arrives from me.
The interesting thing is how little the clerk knew about
the product she, in theory anyway, was supposed to sell.

That clerk would’ve just printed out a meter instead of even thinking about the stamp stock!
