Yeah, so many stamps I won't be able to get face value for. It's a shame. At least with my coin collection, even if I go broke collecting, I will still have money!

For that reason, I wish I collected US coins but sadly, if I have to live off my coin collection, I'd have to go back to Victorian Britain or Roman times. Sad

Thank goodness i never looked at my hobby as a cash cow...i had a couple of barbers at different times who collected coins and they would buy them in their shop...they would tell me how they were going to put a grandchild through college with their coin collections..they looked astonished when they asked me what my stamp collection was worth and i said it had no monetary value !

If all the stamps are used then they have no value for postage, but I'd rather have a used set of Zeppelins than 30 used Morgan silver dollars. The used Zeppelins have zero value as postage, but well over $500 in market value. The Morgans have a face value of $30 and a current junk silver value of around $500.

Don't forget, that $3 million 1c Z grill is a USED stamp!

Wait.. You actually SELL stamps? I while away the hours in pure sorting bliss and most stay in their glassines without ever making it to an album..then I get another collection to sort...and another...and another... Selling a stamp. I am way too much of a hoarder for that. Don't worry Phil, if ya stop selling them then you won't feel like it may not be a good return on time Winking

cocollectibles: I will gladly exchange any coins of either Galba or Otho you may have for some nice new US coins. Let's see how much is a Denarius worth currently.... Ted.

re: Trivial pursuits

Galba and Otho? What about Vitellius, the third of the "three Emperors in one year"? Sorry, Ted, I don't have those and I suspect they are quite hard to find in any condition, given the fleeting reigns. I have Vespasian, Titus, Constantine, and one yet to be identified but I think it may be late Roman Empire. I didn't say I had a lot, as coins are not my "thing" as stamps are, but I couldn't resist the Roman deals I got.
