Just got a notice that a new stamp sheet sponsored by the Richard III Society is for sale through BFDC (British First Day Covers). Limited edition, 2500 copies (there are about 3,500 members of the Society in Britain alone). GPB 30 with free shipping.

Here is a copy of the sheet from the promotional brochure. I ordered one and will scan the actual sheet when it arrives.

re: Richard III Society stamp sheet

I saw those stamp sheets when they were issued but I was staggered by the price. No way I'll pay a huge premium over face for these.

So instead I bought one of these:

Image Not Found:

It features a 1st class 'Post & Go' stamp, which is an example from the recently introduced stamp vending machines. The value tablet is printed at point of sale. These are becoming very collectible, particularly as they come in differently designed issues. Numerous errors are already hitting the market.

In addition, it features a 'Horizon' label. A Horizon label is an adhesive postage label that is a type of variable value stamp. The labels were introduced in the United Kingdom in 2002 as part of the computerisation of the counter services of the post office network of Royal Mail.

The first labels were large plain labels composed purely of text but later labels are of a gold colour with a Machin head and a repeating pattern of the words ROYALMAIL in order to prevent forgery.

The example on cover was privately produced (sponsored?) for this commemorative issue.

This appealed to me as it was a most unusual and limited issue.

Love Black Adder!

Here's the Leicester "parking lot" under re-construction to become the new KR-III visitor centre. Took this mid-May 2014.
