dani, i have been on the path for quite awhile now as my closets and basement will attest..my accumulating does not affect our lifetstyle..so i am not concerned about what happens to my gems when i leave the planet. I used to drink in my earlier days..but other mind altering substances never appealed to me. My wife says'why don't you get rid of the stuff you never look at?" thats a possibility in the FUTURE !

re: i must be a fascist !

These are very interesting.

I have a couple of the orginal unoverprinted Milan 1906 labels in different colours and one in green overprinted for a philatelic gathering at Lake Maggiore in 1929 but I've not seen these before.

They commemorate a meeting on 12th February 1941 in Bordighera on the French/Italian border at which Mussolini tried to persuade Franco to bring Spain into the war on the side of the Axis.

re: i must be a fascist !

So what is so bad about being an accumulator? As I get older, and harder to entertain, I go to my "hoard," pull out a box or plastic bin, and start sorting, cataloging and exploring the world! I cannot imagine specializing to the degree that I spend days and months pursuing one or two stamps. Or spending hours staring at a single stamp, scrutinizing and noting minutia.

Don't get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with specializing, but for those of us with adult ADHD (which was never diagnosed when we were young because back then it was "our fault," we were lazy or we were just retarded), the ability to focus on one thing is nigh unto impossible. So, it is either self medicate with alcohol or grass, take Adderall, Prozac or other mind numbing meds, or accumulate and play with stamps. I tried the alcohol and prescription route, but neither was as effective as "sorting, cataloging and exploring the world" through stamps!

Viva los accumulators!

This once again proves that stamp collecting really is therapy and is good for the soul.

I'm glad you found stamps.

DRAT! I was blaming it on the Three Stooges and sugary cereals. Those cereals that were so sugary they touted it, like SUGAR Frosted Flakes, SUGAR Puffs, SUGAR Crisp, SUPER SUGAR Crisp!

re: i must be a fascist !

I haven't been active with Stamporama for a while and decided to browse the site. there have been many changes and quite a leap forward for the club. Very nicely done!
As I have gotten older and hopefully and somewhat wiser, I have found that I had to switch to more cover work rather than stamps, mainly due to eyesight. I am in agreement with other posters on this thread about foraying in the accumulation boxes purchased over the years. Now I can explore what caught my attention years ago and purchased on impulse. I guess there is a love at first sight. This foray has renewed my drive to collect research, mount and organize my collections which are many and divided into subtopics.
I have sold other collections and have learned that the prices realized from those collections, that unless you have real gems, just enjoy the hobby for what it brings to you. From this point on, however long that will be, I will donate my cover collections to veterans organizations or other groups such as scouts.
