My old stamp club in Lansing, Michigan had a newsletter editor, Jim Adams, who penned some of the FUNNIEST stamp themed top 10 lists every month. I thought I'd dig them out of my filing cabinet, dust them off, and share with you. They were written in the early 1990s . . here is one from 1993 to start us off; And - if you can think of one that we should add to the list, well, let's hear 'em!!!

THE TOP 10 FANTASIES OF STAMP COLLECTORS;

10. Spouse suddenly becomes really interested in collecting!

9. Market for damaged stamps suddenly skyrockets.

8. Rich elderly widow next door dies and wills you her late husband's Zeppelin collection.

7. Stamp club finds location for next show (the club's show was 'homeless" at the time)

6. Dealer offers you $500.00 for a stamp you found in another dealer's nickel box.

5. You can go back to 1981 for just one day to sell your collection. (remember the 80's prices? Today it would probably be go back and buy Early China)

4. You rub it and a genie pops out (oops lamp collector fantasy)

3. Fast, courteous service from the local post office's well stocked philatelic window. Complete with black ink, circular date stamp cancels upon request!

2. Stamp club offers well-written, insightful newsletter.

drum roll - and the number one stamp collector fantasy ---

1. Stamps are accepted at FULL catalog value towards payment of income taxes!Rolling On The Floor Laughing

haha -- let's see what you can add to the list. Have fun!

Paypal waive their fees as part of a Special Bargain Decade.

My local stamp club actually listens to my historical introduction so I don't have to repeat it every time I show the same country.

A world shortage of Sellotape leads to a dealer sending me my stamps in a package I can get into without professional excavation equipment.

The people who used to be able to write the Lord's Prayer legibly on the back of a postage stamp are employed by Stanley Gibbons to copy their entire catalogue into a pocket diary.

March 19th is declared a national holiday on full pay for stamp collectors only.

Watermarks are trained to speak, and announce themselves without any further action on our part.

Shucks, for modern US, I'd settle for 100% of face value!!!

"Watermarks are trained to speak, and announce themselves without any further action on our part."

Excellent idea! Absent that, how about an app that you just ask your smart phone to figure out watermark and type for you? Ditto with paper type. Heck, just give me the catalog number!

Self-adhesive stamps are declared environmentally unfriendly, as there is extra backing paper that is tossed out.

I have a bag of Dennison hinges that came with a collection that I purchased. I was happier to find those than any stamp in the collection! LOL
