For sure !!! That is a good looking stamp! I do that all the time as well. Get a favorite for the moment and get a bunch to check for color variants and flyspecks. Any good reason to buy a stamp.

re: Anyone else buy the same stamp over and over or i am unique ?

Phil.
It's just you. None of the rest of us have duplicates. I guess we are more disciplined than you are.
Seriously I once bought three pounds of the three cent green large banknote. I have no idea how many that was. I think the technical term is "a bunch". I would do it again if I could find that deal again. That was probably fifteen years ago. The same dealer sold me two pounds of two cent reds. The kind that started in 1890 through the turn of the century. That lot was a little different as most of it is still on paper. At least the greenies were off paper.
I found so many different cancels on those three cent greens that I started a collection of fancy cancels on that issue. I also found a whole bunch of the grilled 136's in that lot. So even though they were "all the same", their was a ton of variety.

Well, wouldn't the various overprints make those "Different" stamps?

I've got a whole slew of South African Springbok stamps, in 26 different envelopes... each one with a pretty clear cancellation from different cities. (yes, somehow I bought a ton of one stamp just for the cancellations.)

Never had done it before but it's a nice little thing to have for the collection.

Fan you are correct..the catalog numbers are different for each of the various overprints of the Guatemala scott #118. That set Scott 114 to 123 printed by Waterlow and Sons in 1902 is popular with many collectors.

I also have a glassine stuffed with the SA Springboks that I thought I'd work on when I finished the one penny South Africa Ship stamp. Well I managed to mount pages of the ship stamp, an interesting item with several different printings, watermarks, overprints and perf varieties. All of course in two different languages. But I never got around to the Springboks because the Machins were replacing the .

In the 1980s through to about 2000 the Nigerian Prince scam (The 419 Scam) was a popular mail cam and many envelopes were processed through the mail many of what appeared to be the Nigerian Stone bridge stamp, the interesting thing is that almost all are counterfeits that were produced by a copy machine, some so crudely that it is amazing that they passed through the mail stream. They were extremely common in bulk worldwide lots so I started setting them aside and eventually mounted several pages just to see how many variations I could acquire.

Then there are the ubiquitous Machins. Once you get the basic level one set you could b done. But there are so many that seem to be slightly different that I was drawn into a deeper level using he Deegam Handbook as a guide. Even then there are shades that add more to the collection. Of course by then cancellations become as intriguing so SOTNs and Perfins can each get a separate section.
The largest bulk lot I ever bought was about twenty kilos from Weeda Auction in Vancouver. The price was really great because the postage to Florida, alone was steep and may have limited sane bidders, but that is about forty pounds on paper and easily fifteen pounds once removed, I never counted them at one time but since there are about 10,300 Machin's to a pound, off paper that lot alone should have contained 150,000 stamps. I have certain color/value Machins on several pages.

Some day when I close my albums someone is going to have a heck of a big lot off paper to sell
