re: Happy New Year! My resolution is to start a new collecting specialty.

Hi Everyone;

My New Years resolution is to put more effort into finding and listing the odd and unusual,
items for all the specialists in SoR. After almost a year of reading these threads I just real-
ized that almost all the members on here are specialists at one thing or another. So I'll
devote extra effort to those items that just aren't so common and ordinary.

I've constructed a database (just a text file) of member's "Interests", that I can do a simple
string search for things like Perfins, Seals, Postcards, Revenues, used pairs, and other spe-
cial interests, and then let them know what I have thru private message, when it becomes
available.

I've got about a year of sorting and organizing before that can happen, which gives me
plenty of chance to spot and organize all these gems.

Keep on stampin'

My number one philatelic resolution is to mount material that I already own and catalog items for trade, sale, etc.

I just started college funds this morning for two kids and one on the way, so my philatelic endeavors preclude purchasing the Graf Zeppelins for awhile!Surprise

My resolution is to try to meet more of my philatelic friends in person and to get to know the faraway ones better. I'm starting to realize that the most important part of my collecting is the wonderful folks I've met and those I've yet to meet. Without all of you, I'd probably be a hermit in my stamp cave!

For a specific collecting goal - probably continue to pare down my collection to something more manageable. It sometimes feels like taming a wild beast! LOL

Hi Everyone;

@ BeeSee;

Those are nice pages indeed. Please tell us a bit more, like about the software you used
to create them and the clip art you used for those nice borders too. Also where did you
get the B/W images you used next to the different design descriptions. A very well thought
out and executed design.

Also I'll keep you both in mind as I'm sorting my Czechoslovakia stamps and set aside any-
thing I find, that you might be able to use.

Keep on stampin'....

re: Happy New Year! My resolution is to start a new collecting specialty.

Thanks for all the comments!

I do make my own pages in MS Publisher. That program comes with MS Office, and is fairly easy to use. It allows you to create borders of any stamp shape including triangles and diamonds, and precisely locate them on the page.

As for the page border, I designed it myself. Well sort of Cool. I traced part of the scroll work at the bottom of this Gilbert and Ellice Islands stamp in AutoCAD, converted it to a JPEG then made the master border in Publisher.

The black and white stamp images are just scans edited with imaging software. I use Paint.net and PaintShop Pro.

As for the Hradcany stamps, I am definitely looking to trade. I have many duplicates and but am missing some of the perforated values. Perhaps we should start a SOR form dedicated to Hradcany!

Hi Everyone;

@ BeeSee;

That is the most original and clever idea for a fancy border design I've ever heard of.
Very ingenious indeed. Why don't you consider making professional looking page de-
signs and borders? You could sell them on the web, just like the Steiner pages.

BeeSee, have you ever thought of entering those pages in a stamp exhibition?

@ Everyone;

Here is an idea if you think you or someone else might like to do just that. The PC soft-
ware CorelDraw version 8, includes a clip art disc, with many hundreds of Victorian
elaborate/ornate scrolls and old etching style artworks. the ClipArt disc, can probably
be purchased used from eBay or elsewhere. The clip art disc is Vector art not bit-
mapped as is JPEG and that means it can be enlarged without the jaggies.

The Corel draw application also provides precision placement of stamp borders and
uses align/distribute (for even spacing) of any objects.

Keep on stampin'....

re: Happy New Year! My resolution is to start a new collecting specialty.

So, for 2015 I intend to add to my United Nations topical collection the worldwide stamps commemorating the 10th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in 1958. By my count there were only about 45 countries that participated, and for MNH I believe the total catalog value would be under $200. I will be using the computer to set the layouts on White Ace blank UN pages. Here is what I have put together the first two weeks of the year.
